Sana’a – As part of the University of Science and Technology’s commitment to community service and its role in promoting health awareness, fifth-level students of Cohort 29 from the College of Dentistry conducted a field visit today to Ebsar Center for the Blind Care in Sana’a.
The visit aimed to enhance awareness among the center’s students regarding the importance of oral and dental health, introduce preventive measures against oral diseases, and emphasize the importance of adopting healthy habits to maintain good oral hygiene.
During the outreach visit, the College of Dentistry students provided health education and guidance to the center’s beneficiaries. They also demonstrated proper toothbrushing techniques and the correct use of toothbrushes and toothpaste, highlighting the importance of daily oral care and regular dental checkups.
The visit also included clinical oral examinations and screenings for the center’s beneficiaries to identify common oral health concerns and provide appropriate guidance, contributing to improved oral health and the prevention of dental diseases and complications.
Dr. Arwa Al-Haj, supervisor of the field visit, explained that the initiative reflects the College of Dentistry’s commitment to strengthening students’ practical skills and linking their academic knowledge with community needs. She emphasized the importance of providing health education to all segments of society, including individuals with visual impairments, to enhance awareness and prevent oral diseases.
The students were accompanied by Mr. Jamal Zaid, Head of the University’s Community Service Unit, as part of UST’s support for field activities and community initiatives and its ongoing commitment to serving society.
The visit forms part of the College of Dentistry’s community engagement programs designed to integrate academic learning with community service, provide students with opportunities to apply their scientific knowledge and practical skills in diverse community settings, and strengthen their professional and humanitarian responsibility toward various segments of society.
For his part, Mr.MansourAl-Hammadi, Deputy Director of the Center, expressed his appreciation to the University of Science and Technology, the College of Dentistry, and Cohort 29 students for this initiative, commending its educational and humanitarian value. He stressed the importance of continuing such community activities, which contribute to raising health awareness among the center’s beneficiaries.
Al-Hammadi also expressed his aspiration to strengthen cooperation between the center and the University and to provide scholarship opportunities for outstanding students affiliated with the center, enabling them to pursue higher education and achieve their academic and professional aspirations.
