Sana’a – Prof. Al-Qasim Mohammed Abbas, President of the University of Science and Technology (UST), held an expanded meeting on Saturday morning with college deans and faculty members to discuss ways to develop the assessment and examination system and enhance the quality of the educational process in order to achieve the intended learning outcomes in line with academic standards and quality assurance and accreditation requirements.
The meeting focused on improving assessment mechanisms and tools to ensure their alignment with course learning outcomes and to enhance the efficiency of measurement and evaluation processes. Discussions also addressed the automation of examinations and the utilization of technological solutions and intelligent systems in exam preparation, administration, grading, and results analysis, thereby improving the efficiency, accuracy, and objectivity of assessment processes.
Several topics related to the development of the examination and assessment system were discussed, foremost among them the design of examinations based on learning outcomes and the importance of conducting pre- and post-assessment evaluations.
Participants also explored mechanisms for automating examinations and linking them with question banks, enabling the generation of diverse examination models that are aligned with learning outcomes and their cognitive and practical levels.
The meeting reviewed the question bank template, explained its components and methods of use, and discussed ways to further develop and enrich it with questions prepared according to scientific and academic standards that ensure diversity and quality. This supports the transition toward automated examinations and enhances the efficiency of examination management.
UST President Prof. Al-Qasim Mohammed Abbas emphasized the importance of adhering to academic standards and approved procedures in examination preparation and ensuring a direct alignment between examination questions and course learning outcomes.
He noted that examination automation represents an important pathway for developing the assessment system, provided that it is based on clear academic standards and regulations that guarantee question quality, fairness in assessment, and the integrity of results.
Prof. Al-Qasim Mohammed Abbas further stressed the importance of expanding the use of technology in assessment processes and leveraging electronic systems for examination management, question banks, student performance analysis, and the generation of indicators that assist faculty members and academic units in making data-driven decisions. Such efforts, he noted, contribute to the continuous improvement of educational quality.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Nu’man Al-Najjar, Vice President of UST; Prof. Huda Al-Emad, Advisor to the President for Quality and Accreditation Affairs; and Prof. Ameen Al-Kastaban, Dean of Development and Quality Assurance. The session witnessed active engagement and discussions from faculty members, who presented a number of observations and proposals related to examination preparation, question banks, examination automation, and course reports.
In this context, the UST President directed the concerned departments to provide the necessary technical and academic support to faculty members and facilitate the use of approved smart templates and electronic systems. These measures aim to standardize procedures, enhance the efficiency of academic practices, and support digital transformation in the assessment and examination system.
The meeting comes as part of UST’s ongoing efforts to strengthen direct communication with its academic staff, advance educational practices, promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement, and transition toward a more efficient and effective assessment system that benefits from modern technologies. These efforts support the University’s commitment to achieving high-quality learning outcomes and enhancing its readiness to meet quality assurance and academic accreditation requirements.
