Sana’a – On Wednesday, Rajab 1, 1446 AH, corresponding to January 1, 2025 AD, the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Science and Technology (UST) – Main Branch – Sana’a organized the First Oral Medicine Scientific Day and its accompanying exhibition under the slogan “Your Health Begins in Your Mouth, Take Care of It.”

At the opening of the event, organized by fourth-year female students of the Faculty of Dentistry under the supervision of the Scientific Committee and Community Service at the faculty, and in the presence of the Assistant to the President of the University for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Nauman Al-Najjar, Dean of the Female Students’ Branch, Dr. Suzan Al-Harwi, and the heads of scientific departments at the faculty, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Khaled Al-Jawfi, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of this scientific event in enhancing the knowledge and skills of dental students in the field of oral medicine.

The Dean of the Faculty stated that this event gains special importance and character as it coincides with the beginning of a new Gregorian year, as well as the beginning of the Hijri year which corresponds to the month of Rajab Al-Muharram, carrying a great memory for Yemenis: the anniversary of their entry into Islam.

The Dean of the Faculty praised the efforts of the Scientific Committee and the fourth-year female students in organizing this distinguished scientific event, and what it includes of valuable scientific lectures and presentations aimed at enriching the knowledge, information, and skills of the university’s dental students. He pointed out that the Faculty of Dentistry at the university has, since its inception, been committed to organizing various scientific events, including conferences, workshops, and scientific days, to exchange expertise and knowledge, enhance skills, benefit from experts in the field of oral and dental health, and keep pace with all new developments in this field.

The Head of the Scientific Committee and Community Service at the faculty, Dr. Ahlam Al-Kamil, delivered a welcoming speech to the attendees, explaining the goals and topics of the event, and invited the students to benefit from the carefully prepared scientific lectures and presentations. She also expressed her thanks to the University Presidency, the Faculty Dean’s Office, and the Female Students’ Branch for their support and cooperation in making the scientific day a success.

Following that, the Assistant to the Vice President of the University for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Nauman Al-Najjar, accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Khaled Al-Jawfi, and the Dean of the Branch, Dr. Suzan Al-Harwi, inaugurated the dental exhibition accompanying the event. The exhibition featured artistic works, models, and awareness brochures concerning oral and dental diseases, produced by fourth-year female students during their field awareness visits to a number of schools in the Capital Secretariat, Sana’a.

The scientific day included valuable lectures and practical case presentations on oral diseases examined by the dental students in the university’s dental clinics, focusing on oral cancers, ulcers, fungal infections, and autoimmune diseases, while addressing symptoms, diagnostic methods, treatments, and prevention. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Waddah Al-Hajj, a faculty member at the Faculty of Dentistry at the Universities of Science and Technology and Thamar, delivered a valuable lecture focusing on surgical oral cases for beginners and experts, emphasizing the importance of proper diagnosis of medical conditions as the basis for making sound treatment decisions, and noting the importance of accumulated experience and knowledge for a successful dentist.

In conclusion, the lecturers were honored for their contributions in delivering the lectures, alongside the female members of the Scientific Committee and collaborators in the success of the event.
