Sana’a – The Graphic Design and Multimedia Program at the College of Computing and Information Technology, University of Science and Technology (UST), organized a scientific seminar entitled “Tech Nano” to explore the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in graphic design. The event brought together a distinguished group of specialists and industry practitioners and was attended by faculty members and students of the program.
The seminar featured presentations by Ahmed Al-Ward, Mohammed Al-Mahdi, and Roa Al-Aslami, who shared practical experiences and professional insights into the application of AI technologies in graphic design and multimedia. The speakers highlighted some of the most prominent AI-powered tools and applications that are transforming contemporary creative workflows.
One of the central themes of the seminar addressed a frequently discussed question within the design community: Can artificial intelligence replace graphic designers? The speakers agreed that AI serves as a supportive tool that enhances designers’ productivity and accelerates various stages of the creative process. However, they emphasized that it cannot replace the creative designer who possesses the ability to think critically, analyze, innovate, and generate original ideas.
The presenters noted that the real impact of AI will be felt by designers who rely solely on traditional methods and fail to adapt to rapidly evolving technologies. In contrast, designers who continuously enhance their skills and effectively utilize emerging technologies will remain competitive and capable of delivering innovative solutions.
They further stressed that the future of design lies in the integration of human creativity and artificial intelligence rather than in competition between the two, with each complementing the strengths of the other.
The seminar also showcased practical experiences in utilizing AI applications for the production of graphic design and multimedia projects. Participants presented examples from their professional portfolios and introduced several specialized AI design platforms, explaining their features, subscription models, and practical applications for designers.
The event witnessed active engagement from students, who contributed to the discussions through questions and inquiries concerning the future of the profession, the skills required to keep pace with technological advancements, and effective ways of employing AI tools to enhance creative output while preserving artistic identity.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the speakers were honored in recognition of their valuable contributions and for sharing their practical expertise. The event reflected the Graphic Design and Multimedia Program’s commitment to organizing scientific activities that keep pace with technological developments and contribute to preparing graduates capable of meeting the demands of the labor market and the rapidly evolving digital content industry.
