Hudaidah — Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Jibril, Head of the English Language and Translation Department, participated over two consecutive days in the proceedings of the First Conference of the Saudi Arabia Translation Association (SATAC1), held on Wednesday, 30 September, and Thursday, 1 October 2026, amid international and regional attendance at King Saud University, College of Arts, in Riyadh.
In its first edition this year, the conference focused on the accelerating developments in translation technology and the extent to which translation curricula align with labor market requirements in the era of digital transformation.
The conference was held with international attendance, including the President of the International Federation of Translators (FIT), Dr. Guillaume Deneufbourg, the Vice President of the European Society for Translation (EST), Dr. Sara Ramos Pinto, and other experts in the translation industry and artificial intelligence.
The agenda of the SATAC1 Conference included several axes, most notably:
- Innovation and technology in the translation profession
- The economics of translation and labor market opportunities
- The work environment and the quality of life of translators
- Developing translators’ skills and academic and professional qualification
- Professional organization and regulations and legislation related to translation
In addition to scientific papers and training workshops, and the exchange of expertise and experiences among translation scholars and researchers from around the world.
Dr. Jibril’s participation comes within the framework of UST’s keenness and orientations toward expanding the scope of scientific research and research cooperation and partnership, as he was among the first to present scientific papers, and over two days he contributed to the conference sessions, workshops, and discussions on various aspects of translation.
Dr. Jibril is considered among the few researchers distinguished by international publication addressing issues of machine translation and artificial intelligence, and monitoring the translation movement in the Arab world.
