Sana’a – Students of the Rights and Life Initiative from the Department of Sharia and Law at the University of Science and Technology (UST) conducted a field visit today to the Juvenile Court and the Social Guidance Home (Boys) for the care and rehabilitation of juvenile offenders in Sana’a. The visit aimed to familiarize students with the nature of the court’s work and the legal and judicial procedures followed in handling juvenile cases, thereby strengthening the practical component of their studies and enriching their legal and human rights knowledge.
The initiative members were received byJudge Mohammed Al-Khubi, President of the Juvenile Court, and Mr. Mohammed Al-Arafi, Director of the Social Guidance Home. They welcomed the students and praised this distinguished initiative, which reflects university students’ interest in practical and humanitarian engagement. They emphasized the importance of such visits in promoting legal awareness, strengthening social responsibility, and providing psychological support to the home’s residents.
During the visit, the students received a comprehensive briefing from the court president on the jurisdiction and operational mechanisms of the Juvenile Court, as well as the judicial procedures followed in adjudicating juvenile cases. The presentation highlighted the court’s role in achieving restorative justice and safeguarding the rights of juveniles, in addition to addressing the humanitarian and social dimensions associated with litigation and rehabilitation processes.
The initiative team also organized a series of recreational and interactive activities for the residents of the juvenile care home, including competitions, games, entertainment segments, and the distribution of light meals. These activities aimed to bring joy to the juveniles and enhance their psychological and social well-being in an atmosphere characterized by engagement and mutual rapport.
Dr. Mansour Al-Sharafi, faculty member at UST and supervisor of the field visit, commended the efforts of the Rights and Life Initiative team, led by the outstanding student Shahd Al-Qubati. He praised their awareness and commitment to serving humanitarian and legal causes.
He affirmed that student initiatives represent an important avenue for strengthening the integration between academic learning, practical application, and community service.
The Rights and Life Initiative seeks to implement legal and humanitarian programs and activities aimed at supporting juveniles legally, psychologically, and socially, while enhancing opportunities for their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. The initiative also works to raise awareness of juveniles’ rights and build effective partnerships with relevant institutions to help improve their conditions.
At the conclusion of the visit, the President of the Juvenile Court and the Director of the Social Guidance Home were honored by the initiative team. In return, they presented certificates of appreciation to the members of the Rights and Life Initiative in recognition of their efforts and contributions.
