Ibb Branch – Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 and 9 September 2026 — The Department of Pharmacy at the University of Science and Technology – Ibb Branch concluded on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, the scientific training visit for third-level pharmacy students to the Research and Development Center at the University’s Main Center in Sana’a, after a three-day training program that included practical applications on a number of modern and specialized devices in the fields of pharmaceutical analysis and research.
This visit came within the Field Training Program for Pharmacy Students, with the support of the Branch Administration, under the supervision of the Department of Pharmacy, and in coordination with the University’s Main Center, aiming to link the theoretical aspect with practical application, enhance students’ skills in using modern devices, and provide them with applied experiences that contribute to enhancing their academic and professional readiness.
Field Training for Pharmacy Students at the Research and Development Center
Over three days, third-level pharmacy students received practical training on a group of modern devices in the laboratories of the Research and Development Center at the University’s Main Center in Sana’a, giving them the opportunity to directly interact with pharmaceutical analysis techniques and learn about the mechanisms of their use in practical applications.
During the second day of the program, students received practical training on the Spectrophotometer Double Beam, where students were divided into small groups that carried out direct applications on the device and learned about the different methods used in measuring pharmaceutical samples.
Students also performed a number of pharmaceutical calculations related to the quantitative and qualitative analysis of drugs, contributing to enhancing their understanding of the relationship between theoretical concepts and practical applications related to pharmaceutical analysis.
Practical Training on the Spectrophotometer
The practical applications focused on introducing students to the mechanism of using the Spectrophotometer Double Beam and benefiting from it in conducting measurements for pharmaceutical samples.
Dividing students into small groups provided a greater opportunity for direct application, learning about the methods used in dealing with samples, in addition to performing calculations related to the quantitative and qualitative analysis of drugs.
This comes within the objectives of the Field Training Program for Pharmacy Students, aimed at enhancing the applied aspect among students and linking what they learn in classrooms with practical practice in specialized laboratories and facilities.
Visit to the Pharmacology Laboratory and Training on the Polarimeter
Following that, students visited the Pharmacology Laboratory and were briefed on the devices available there, most notably the Polarimeter.
Dr. Fathi Khamad provided an explanation and practical training to students on the mechanism of measuring the optical activity of certain pharmaceutical compounds, by measuring the angle of rotation of polarized light shown by the device.
This application aims to enable students to evaluate drug efficacy and link the practical aspect with what they studied in the theoretical part of the Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry 2 course, enhancing their ability to understand the practical applications of the scientific concepts covered in the course.
Reviewing Scientific References in the College of Pharmacy Library
At the conclusion of the second day’s activities, students visited the College of Pharmacy Library, where they reviewed the scientific references and periodicals available there related to pharmaceutical specializations.
The visit formed a complementary aspect of the training program, by introducing students to specialized scientific sources and references that can be used to develop their academic and research knowledge.
Final Day and Training on the HPLC Device
On the third and final day of the visit, students received practical training on the High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) device, where the trainer provided a detailed explanation of the device’s components and mechanism of operation, and reviewed the special software used in analyzing samples.
Students carried out direct practical application on the device by injecting the pharmaceutical sample, analyzing the drug based on the data and peaks issued by the device, and then discussing and analyzing the results with the course trainer.
This application represented an important station within the training program, given the practical opportunity it provided students to deal with a specialized device and follow the analysis steps through to reading the data and discussing the results.
Visit to the University Morgue within the Training Program
The final day also included a visit to the University Morgue, during which students were briefed on its contents of models, devices, and educational structures.
The visit came within the scientific and training program accompanying students during their presence at the University’s Main Center in Sana’a.
Three Days of Practical Training on Modern Devices
The program gave students the opportunity for direct training and application on a group of modern devices that distinguish the University of Science and Technology, including:

At the conclusion of the training course, a ceremony was held to honor the participating students and present them with training certificates accredited by the Research and Development Center, the College of Pharmacy, and the University Presidency.
During the ceremony, Dr. Nasr Al-Ahmadi, Director of the Branches Administration, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the students and affirmed the interest of the University Presidency in training university students on modern devices and refining their skills with everything new.
He also praised the Ibb Branch as one of the most prominent branches of the University in its keenness to train students, prepare them for the labor market, and provide them with what they need in their future lives.
Dean of the College of Pharmacy Praises Students’ Efforts
For his part, Dr. Abdullah Al-Jamli, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, welcomed the students of the Ibb Branch and praised their keenness to learn and endure the hardship of travel in order to apply on modern devices that serve their specialization and qualify them for the labor market.
He also extended his thanks to Dr. Hani Ghaleb, supervisor and companion of the students during the visit.
In turn, Dr. Hani Ghaleb extended his great thanks for the efforts made by the University and Branch leadership to make this course a success, which enabled students to train on the latest devices that distinguish the University.

At the conclusion of the visit, students expressed their happiness and appreciation to the leadership of the University Branch and the Department for implementing such scientific visits that linked the theoretical aspect with practical application, and gave them the opportunity for direct application for three days on the modern devices that distinguish the University of Science and Technology.
The experience affirmed the importance of practical training in refining the skills of pharmacy students and enhancing their academic and professional readiness, by providing them with the opportunity to directly interact with the devices and techniques used in the fields of pharmaceutical analysis and research.

The honoring ceremony was attended by Mr. Mohammed Mashni, Director of the Consultative and Development Centers Administration, Dr. Mohammed Al-Battah, Lecturer of Pharmacology at the Main Center, and Dr. Abdulrahman Ghazi, Course Trainer.
Thus, third-level pharmacy students at the University of Science and Technology – Ibb Branch concluded a scientific training visit that lasted three days, combining practical training, scientific review, and direct application on a number of modern devices at the Research and Development Center and the educational facilities at the University’s Main Center in Sana’a.
