Master's Program in Computing

The Master’s Program in Computing at the Faculty of Computers and Information Technology, University of Science and Technology (UST), was first launched during the 2007/2008 academic year under the title Master’s Program in Information Technology. The program was later redeveloped and renamed the Master’s Program in Computing in the 2013/2014 academic year, in response to the growing demand for academic and professional specialists equipped with advanced education in computing disciplines. The program aims to provide bachelor’s degree graduates with advanced scientific and technical education, enabling them to meet the evolving requirements of the labor market and scientific research across various computing fields.
Previously, the master’s program offered four specialization tracks: Computer Science, Computer Networks, Software Engineering, and Business Information Systems, with a total of 39 credit hours. In light of the rapid developments in computing technologies and the evolving demands of local and global labor markets, the program has undergone a comprehensive modernization and redesign.
The new curriculum has been aligned with ABET international accreditation standards and developed in accordance with global best practices for advanced computing programs. It now incorporates modern and emerging specializations such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Analytics, and Cybersecurity, in addition to contemporary topics in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Software Engineering. This transformation aims to equip graduates with cutting-edge knowledge and skills that enable them to excel in highly competitive professional and research environments.
The Master’s Program in Computing requires the completion of 36 credit hours, comprising 30 credit hours of coursework and 6 credit hours allocated to the master’s thesis. The curriculum emphasizes the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing students for excellence in research, development, and innovation within the field of computing.

The history of the Master’s Program in Computing at the Faculty of Computers and Information Technology, University of Science and Technology (UST), dates back to the 2007/2008 academic year, when it was launched under the name Master’s Program in Information Technology in response to the growing need for specialized academic, research, and professional competencies in the fields of computing and information technology.

Over the past eighteen years, the program has continued to fulfill its mission of developing human capital and has contributed significantly to Yemen by graduating a large number of master’s degree holders who have gone on to serve in universities, research institutions, technology sectors, and public and private organizations, both within Yemen and abroad.
The program provides distinguished educational and research experiences for postgraduate students in core and emerging multidisciplinary computing fields. It seeks to prepare outstanding researchers and graduates equipped with professional, entrepreneurial, and innovative skills that meet the needs of the labor market and society. This is achieved through a high‑quality interactive environment that fosters excellence in learning, research, and personal development, with the aim of creating transformative solutions that address national and regional community needs.

The program aims at:

  1. Preparing highly competent graduates in computing disciplines who are capable of pursuing advanced graduate studies or engaging in scientific research.
  2. Developing students’ entrepreneurial and creative skills to address local and global challenges.
  3. Enabling students to conduct impactful research and contribute to advancing the computing field.
  4. Preparing graduates with the necessary skills to meet the labor market demands at both the national and regional levels.
Upon successful completion of the Master of Computer Science program, graduates will be able to:

  • Successfully complete all courses specified in the study plan.
  • Successfully pass the defense of the master’s thesis.
  • Submit the required bound copies of the research thesis.
  • Pass the English proficiency examination.
