📝 Admission & Registration Procedures

University of Science and Technology (UST) – Sana'a, Yemen

🎓 Admission & Registration Requirements

  • The University admits holders of the General Secondary Certificate in the Republic of Yemen, or its equivalent, with the average determined annually by the Ministry of Higher Education.
  • All required documents must be submitted, duly certified, together with the university application form to the Admission and Registration Department.
  • Admission is based on the capacity determined by the University and approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.
  • The student undertakes to comply with the University's regulations, instructions, and bylaws in force during the period of study.

📊 Competitive Examination

  • Applicants to the Medicine and Surgery program are subject to competitive selection based on their secondary school average.
  • A competitive examination is held in the following subjects: (Biology, Chemistry, English).

📄 Required Documents – Secondary School Graduates

  1. Application (admission) form, with all information fully completed in accordance with the University's requirements.
  2. Original, duly certified General Secondary Certificate, or its equivalent, together with a photocopy thereof.
  3. A copy of the personal or family ID card, or passport, for Yemeni students.
  4. Ten personal photographs, size (4×6 cm), white background, front-facing.
  5. A confirmation letter from the Ministry of Education.

🌍 Secondary School Graduates from Outside Yemen

In addition to the above, they are required to submit the following:

  1. If the secondary certificate is from outside Yemen, it must be certified (original + copy) by the following authorities:
    • The Ministry of Education in the country that issued the certificate.
    • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country that issued the certificate.
    • The Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in the country that issued the certificate.
    • The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sana'a.
    • The Yemeni Ministry of Education for the purpose of equivalency.
  2. If the secondary certificate is from a non-Arab country, it must be translated after certification, and the translated copy must also be certified (in accordance with paragraph 3 above), in addition to obtaining its equivalency from the Ministry of Education in the Republic of Yemen.
  3. Copies of the first eight pages of the passport (for non-Yemenis), provided that the passport is valid for more than one year and records a residence in Yemen of at least one year.

🔄 Required Documents – Transfer Students from Other Universities

1. Students Transferring from Yemeni Universities to UST

In addition to the above, they are required to submit the following:

  • A transcript of the courses the student has studied at that university, duly certified by the Yemeni Higher Education authority.
  • An official memorandum from the Ministry to the University approving the transfer.
  • Photocopies of the transcript.
  • A certified copy from the university where the student studied, showing the scientific content of the courses listed in the transcript.

2. Students Transferring from Universities Outside Yemen

In addition to the above, they are required to submit the following:

  • The transcript must be certified by the Higher Education authority, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country, the Yemeni Embassy there, and the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sana'a — provided that the institution is recognised by the Yemeni Higher Education authority.
  • A certified copy from the university where the student studied, showing the scientific content listed in the transcript.
  • If the transcript is in a language other than Arabic, it must be translated and certified as mentioned above.

⏱️ The Credit Hour System

In the credit hour system, the student is entitled to study a set of courses defined in credit hours. The advantages this system offers the student include:

  • The student's freedom to choose the courses he wishes to study each semester, with the assistance of the academic advisor.
  • The student's freedom to reduce or increase the number of courses studied in the semester.
  • The possibility for the student to study a summer semester in order to lighten the academic load so that he may graduate before four years.
  • The student has the right to repeat a course he has passed, for the purpose of improving his cumulative average.
