Sana’a – In a new scientific achievement that adds to the University of Science and Technology’s (UST) research record, a team of researchers from the university has successfully published a specialized study in the field of medical artificial intelligence in Scientific Reports, a leading international journal under the Nature Portfolio and published by Springer Nature.

The study, titled “An Adaptive Hierarchical Class-Aware Deep Ensemble Strategy for Robust Brain Tumor Classification,” presents an advanced artificial intelligence and deep learning-based approach aimed at improving brain tumor classification using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The proposed methodology employs an adaptive hierarchical framework that leverages the complementary strengths of multiple deep learning models.
The research was conducted by a team of scholars led by Prof. Noaman Qaid Al-Najjar, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shaddadi, and Dr. Motie Al-Samawi, in collaboration with researchers from other academic and research institutions.
The study demonstrated the high effectiveness of the proposed strategy, achieving an accuracy rate of 98.15% on an independent test dataset and outperforming several comparative methods evaluated within the research.
This work is particularly significant as it introduces a novel methodology for applying deep learning and artificial intelligence techniques to medical classification tasks, with a focus on enhancing both diagnostic accuracy and the interpretability of decision-making processes. Such advancements strengthen the potential for future applications of AI technologies in healthcare and medical research.
The publication of this study in Scientific Reports reflects the advanced quality of research conducted by UST scholars and underscores the university’s growing presence in emerging scientific fields, particularly artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering.
Scientific Reports is one of the world’s widely recognized multidisciplinary scientific journals, publishing peer-reviewed research across the natural, medical, and engineering sciences.
According to the journal’s official metrics, it recorded an impact factor of 4.9 in 2025 and is indexed in major international databases, including Q1, Web of Science (SCI), PubMed/Medline, and Scopus.
The journal also surpassed one million citations during 2025, placing it among the most highly cited scientific journals worldwide.
