Sana’a – The Department of Radiologic Technology and Medical Imaging at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Science and Technology (UST), today concluded its clinical case study discussion sessions for fourth-level female students, held as part of their graduation requirements. The sessions comprised three scientific discussions during which students presented and discussed approximately 30 diverse clinical cases, including several complex and rare conditions.
The third and final session, held today at the female students’ branch, featured discussions of 11 diverse clinical cases, including acute perforated cholecystitis, choledochal cyst, Grisel syndrome, chronic granulomatous disease, Fahr disease, pseudoaneurysm of the popliteal artery, carotid-cavernous fistula, median arcuate ligament syndrome, congenital absence of the internal carotid artery, congenital craniofacial anomalies, and tuberous sclerosis complex.
The previous sessions addressed a broad range of cases covering various medical specialties, including congenital lobar emphysema, ectopic thyroid, complex inflammatory diseases affecting the joints and kidneys, and vascular conditions such as varicose veins and thrombosis. These cases highlighted the important role of medical imaging and its technologies in reaching accurate diagnoses.
During the discussions, the students delivered scientific presentations addressing the clinical and diagnostic aspects of the cases, with particular emphasis on the role of medical imaging in diagnosis, the imaging techniques employed, appropriate examination protocols and contrast media, as well as the diagnostic interpretation and significance of radiological findings in supporting clinical decision-making.
The presentations reflected considerable diversity in the types and complexity of the cases, including several rare conditions. This provided the students with an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge to case analysis, examine medical images, reach appropriate diagnoses, and become familiar with the imaging protocols and techniques suited to each clinical condition.
The discussion committee, chaired by Dr. Amin Al-Falahi, Head of the Radiology Department, with Dr. Abdullah Taher and Dr. Saddam Al-Zoufi as members, praised the scientific quality of the clinical cases and the quality of the students’ presentations. The committee highlighted the students’ ability to present and analyse cases and connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications, emphasising the importance of such activities in strengthening students’ skills and developing their professional capabilities.
The organisation of these sessions comes as part of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences’ commitment to enhancing the practical component of education and providing both female and male students with meaningful opportunities to develop their skills in analysis, diagnosis, and scientific presentation, in line with the programme’s academic objectives and the professional requirements of the radiologic technology and medical imaging field.
