Sana’a – Faculty of Dentistry at University of Science and Technology (UST) organized today, Wednesday, Rajab 1, 1446 AH, corresponding to January 1, 2025 AD, the “First Scientific Day for Oral Medicine” event and its accompanying exhibition under the banner: “Your Health Begins with Your Mouth, So Care for It.”
During the opening of the event—organized by fourth-year female students at the Faculty of Dentistry under the supervision of the faculty’s Scientific Committee and Community Service—in the presence of UST Assistant President for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Naaman Al-Najjar, Female Branch Dean Dr. Susan Al-Harwi, and heads of academic departments at the faculty, Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Khaled Al-Joufi delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of this scientific event in enhancing the knowledge and skills of dental students in the field of oral medicine.
The faculty dean stated that this event holds special significance and character as it coincides with the beginning of the new Gregorian calendar year as well as the beginning of the Hijri year, which corresponds to the sacred month of Rajab, carrying a great historical memory for Yemenis: the anniversary of their entry into Islam.
Furthermore, the faculty dean praised the efforts of the Scientific Committee and the fourth-year female students in organizing this distinguished scientific event, highlighting the valuable lectures and scientific presentations designed to enrich the knowledge, information, and skills of the university’s dental students. He noted that the Faculty of Dentistry has consistently organized various scientific events—including conferences, workshops, and scientific days—since its inception to facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge, enhance skills, benefit from experts in oral and dental health, and keep abreast of all advancements in the field.
Additionally, Head of the Scientific Committee and Community Service Dr. Ahlam Al-Kamel delivered a welcoming speech outlining the goals and topics of the event. She encouraged students to benefit from the carefully prepared scientific lectures and presentations, while expressing her gratitude to the university leadership, faculty administration, and the female branch for their support and cooperation in making the scientific day a success.
Following the speeches, UST Assistant President for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Naaman Al-Najjar, accompanied by Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Khaled Al-Joufi and Female Branch Dean Dr. Susan Al-Harwi, inaugurated the dental exhibition accompanying the event. The exhibition featured artistic works, models, and awareness brochures concerning oral and dental diseases, produced by fourth-year female students during field awareness visits to various schools across the capital municipality of Sana’a.
The scientific day featured valuable lectures and presentations of clinical oral disease cases examined by dental students at the university’s dental clinics. The presentations focused on oral cancers, ulcers, fungal infections, and autoimmune diseases, addressing symptoms, diagnostic methods, treatment protocols, and prevention strategies. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Waddah Al-Hajj, faculty member at the Faculty of Dentistry at both the University of Science and Technology and Thamar University, delivered a comprehensive lecture focusing on surgical oral cases for both beginners and experts, emphasizing the importance of accurate diagnosis in determining proper treatment and highlighting the value of accumulated experience and knowledge in a dentist’s success.
