Sana’a – The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) organized an extensive academic orientation session on Sunday for newly admitted female students for the 2026–2027 academic year. The event was held in the Main Hall of the Female Students Branch and was attended by the Dean of the College, Dr. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi, vice deans, heads of academic departments, the leadership of the Female Students Branch, and academic coordinators.
The orientation was organized as part of UST’s commitment to preparing students for university life and introducing them to academic programs, specializations, regulations, and study and training requirements in medical and health disciplines.
At the beginning of the session, Dr. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi, Dean of the College, welcomed the new students and expressed his pleasure at their enrollment in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. He wished them a successful and distinguished academic journey, emphasizing that joining medical disciplines marks the beginning of a scientific and professional path that requires dedication, diligence, discipline, and continuous development of knowledge and skills.
Dr. Al-Makhlafi noted that studying medicine and health sciences carries significant scientific and humanitarian responsibilities, given the vital role healthcare professionals play in serving society and enhancing the quality of healthcare services. He stressed the importance of building a strong academic foundation from the outset of their university studies and acquiring the practical and clinical skills necessary for their future professions.
For their part, the College’s vice deans encouraged the students to make full use of the educational and training opportunities provided by the University, actively participate in scientific and practical activities that enhance personal and professional skills, benefit from academic advising services and office hours, and build positive and effective relationships with faculty members. They affirmed the College’s commitment to providing a supportive and motivating learning environment that combines academic knowledge with practical application.
Medical and health programs at UST continue to attract increasing numbers of students, reflecting the University’s strong academic reputation and distinguished standing in medical education. This is further supported by its advanced educational and practical environment, which enables students to combine academic achievement with hands-on and clinical training.
This growing demand reflects the increasing confidence in the academic programs, educational services, and training opportunities offered by UST, all of which contribute to preparing highly qualified medical and healthcare professionals capable of meeting labor market needs and serving the community.
During the session, vice deans and heads of academic departments presented an overview of medical and health programs and specializations, study plans, registration procedures, course requirements, and practical and clinical training components. They also explained the academic regulations, policies, and guidelines that students are expected to understand and follow from the beginning of their university journey.
The session further highlighted the importance of attendance, academic discipline, time management, effective study organization, and the utilization of academic advising and office hours. In addition, students were introduced to the scientific, extracurricular, and support services available through the University and the College throughout their studies.
The orientation witnessed strong engagement from the newly admitted students, who were given the opportunity to raise questions and inquiries regarding academic programs, training opportunities, and university life. These discussions with the Dean, vice deans, and academic coordinators helped enhance direct communication, provided a clearer understanding of university requirements, and supported students’ readiness to integrate into the university environment while benefiting from the guidance and support available from the very beginning of their academic journey.
