Sana’a – The Department of Diagnostic Radiologic Technology and Medical Imaging at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Science and Technology (UST), organized a scientific session on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as part of the Directed Studies (Case Study) course. During the session, fourth-level students presented and discussed nine clinical cases in which medical imaging played a key role in establishing the final diagnosis.
The session aimed to strengthen students’ practical, clinical, and technical competencies by bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world practice through the presentation and analysis of a variety of clinical cases covering several medical specialties.
The cases discussed included:
- Multilevel Peripheral Arterial Disease.
- Bilateral Nasoethmoidal Encephalocele.
- Atrial Septal Defect (ASD).
- Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Hard Palate.
- Enchondroma.
- Leriche Syndrome.
- Brainstem Glioma.
- Mediastinal Arachnoid Cyst.
- Ocular complications of Retinopathy of Prematurity associated with Benign Enlargement of the Subarachnoid Spaces.
Dr. Amin Al-Fallahi, Head of the Department, emphasized the importance of this type of training in refining students’ diagnostic and technical skills, enhancing their competence in evaluating radiographic images and medical imaging protocols, and contributing to the interpretation of imaging findings. He highlighted the University’s commitment to advancing medical education and aligning it with practical applications and labor market needs.
The session concluded with a number of academic recommendations that encouraged students to continue engaging in scientific research and lifelong learning, while also motivating them to develop the discussed case studies into scientific papers and academic research projects.
The event was attended by Dr. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi, Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sabl, Vice Dean; Dr. Amin Al-Fallahi, Head of the Department; faculty members Dr. Abdullah Taher, Dr. Saddam Al-Zoufi, and Dr. Thanaa Abu Hadi, Academic Coordinator; case supervisors Dr. Safaa Abbas and Dr. Bara’ah Abu Hadi; Dr. Sumaya Al-Junaid, Radiology Laboratories Supervisor; and Fatimah Al-Qasimi, Department Coordinator. Third-level students also attended the session to benefit from the presentations and discussions.
