Sana’a – Under the academic sponsorship and active participation of the University of Science and Technology (UST) – Main Branch – Sana’a, the activities of the International Dental Expo and Conference (IDEC) launched today. The event witnessed widespread participation from academics, doctors, experts, and specialists in the field of oral and dental medicine and surgery from across the Republic of Yemen, as well as experts from outside Yemen, aiming to keep pace with the latest scientific and technical developments, exchange expertise, and contribute to the advancement of professional practice and healthcare services in Yemen.
At the opening ceremony, the Minister of Public Health and Environment, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdul-Karim Shaiban, delivered a speech praising the efforts of the conference and exhibition organizers. He emphasized that the dentistry sector is witnessing rapid development that requires continuous tracking of the latest technologies and therapeutic methods, noting that the Republic of Yemen has experienced a qualitative leap in medical education and health services—opening several Master’s and Doctoral programs in various medical specialties, including dentistry—proving that Yemenis are capable of production and creativity when confident in their human capabilities. The Minister affirmed that the Ministry of Public Health and Environment pays great attention to continuous medical education and encourages scientific conferences that raise the efficiency of health workers and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.
For his part, the President of the University of Science and Technology and President of the Conference, Prof. Dr. Al-Qasim Mohammed Abbas, stressed the significance of holding this specialized scientific event. He noted that the IDEC conference represents a leading scientific platform combining academic and practical aspects, fostering scientific research, and linking medical education outcomes with health needs. He explained that UST is keen on supporting such conferences for their active role in developing medical cadres and building sustainable professional partnerships, adding: “We in Yemeni universities, led by UST, have enriched scientific research by opening all postgraduate programs in various specialties of oral and dental medicine and surgery,” pointing out that the university has supplied the local and regional market with thousands of qualified cadres as the first university to open a Faculty of Dentistry in the Republic of Yemen in early 1994.
Speeches were also delivered by the Head of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, Dr. Khaled Al-Dhurai, the President of the Dental Association, Dr. Nasr Al-Qadeemi, and the Head of the Organizing Committee for the Conference and Exhibition, Mr. Naaman Al-Asbahi, all emphasizing the importance of the conference in exchanging expertise among dentists and staying abreast of new oral and dental techniques and surgery.
The three-day IDEC conference and exhibition feature a rich scientific program comprising scientific lectures and specialized workshops delivered by experts and academics from inside and outside Yemen, alongside an accompanying exhibition showcasing the latest equipment, supplies, and modern technologies in dentistry, with the participation of several Yemeni companies.
On the sidelines of the opening, Prof. Dr. Al-Qasim Mohammed Abbas visited the university’s pavilion at the exhibition, commending the distinguished efforts made by the Marketing, Relations, and Media Team in enhancing the university’s participation and presence, stressing the importance of continued teamwork to achieve the desired goals.
The opening ceremony included honoring His Excellency the Minister of Public Health and Environment, the President of the Conference, his deputy, the Head of the Organizing Committee, and the lecturers.
The opening events were attended by Dr. Olfah Al-Bahri, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at UST – Main Branch – Sana’a, along with a number of faculty members.
