Engineering College Committees
The College of Engineering comprises several committees, including the following:
1. Faculty Recruitment and Selection Committee
The responsibilities of the Faculty Recruitment and Selection Committee include:
- Collecting and screening applications from candidates seeking part-time teaching positions.
- Conducting interviews for candidates shortlisted based on the application review process.
- Determining the courses to be assigned to instructors according to their experience and evaluation results.
- Interviewing faculty applicants seeking full-time positions at the Ibb and Taiz branches, based on directives issued by the Assistant President for Academic Affairs.
- Interviewing applicants for teaching assistant positions on an hourly basis (laboratory and practical courses) for both male and female candidates, with selections made according to competency and committee evaluation outcomes.
2. Field Training Committee
Field Training is a practical course component within each academic specialization of the College. Students complete their training under the supervision of the Field Training Committee at institutions related to their areas of specialization within the labor market. The training aims to reinforce the theoretical concepts and practical skills acquired during academic study through real-world professional experience, while familiarizing students with the work environment they are expected to enter after graduation.
The Field Training Committee oversees all aspects of student training, including approving training applications, identifying training opportunities, assigning students to host institutions, monitoring their progress, conducting evaluations and discussions, preparing training results, and providing departments with the required information related to their students, in addition to other training-related responsibilities.
3. Disciplinary Committee
The Disciplinary Committee is formed by a decision of the Dean of the College at the beginning of each academic year. Its responsibilities focus on reviewing violations committed by students, whether related to examination regulations, conduct within the university, interactions with university staff, or relations among students. The committee submits recommendations for approval by the Dean in accordance with the disciplinary regulations and penalties outlined in the Student Academic Regulations.
4. Community Partnership Committee
The Community Partnership Committee is formed by a decision of the Dean at the beginning of each academic year. Its role is to strengthen links between the College and the wider community through collaboration with public and private institutions. The committee works to establish effective partnerships through the provision of technical and engineering consultations, the organization of exhibitions, seminars, and joint workshops, and the delivery of services such as training programs and research initiatives. These efforts contribute to strengthening community institutions and supporting sustainable development.
5. Graduation Projects Committee
The responsibilities of the Graduation Projects Committee include:
- Preparing an annual plan at the beginning of each academic year.
- Publishing the Graduation Projects Guide and conducting orientation seminars to introduce students to project requirements, implementation mechanisms, regulations, and procedures.
- Collecting project proposals from students and faculty members, reviewing and approving them, assigning projects to students, and appointing supervisors.
- Monitoring student progress throughout the academic year and addressing any challenges encountered.
- Coordinating with external entities, when necessary, to facilitate student research and project implementation.
- Announcing submission deadlines and preliminary and final defense dates, while organizing and supervising these activities.
- Summarizing the outcomes of preliminary and final project defenses, coordinating with departments regarding moderation processes, and submitting final results to department leadership.
- Organizing workshops related to project development, regulations, guidelines, and related matters as needed.
- Conducting orientation seminars for students prior to project defenses and providing guidance for examination committees.
- Archiving projects, selecting outstanding projects, and distributing them to departmental and college libraries.
6. Laboratories Committee
The responsibilities of the Laboratories Committee include:
- Monitoring and improving laboratory organization and development.
- Ensuring that laboratory equipment remains in excellent operational condition.
- Identifying laboratory needs and submitting requests to the relevant authorities to ensure continuity and development of laboratory operations.
- Supervising students during laboratory sessions and guiding them in the proper use of equipment.
- Providing students with the necessary instructions and guidance regarding equipment operation and safety procedures.
- Preparing and submitting required reports to the responsible authorities.
7. Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research Committee
The responsibilities of the Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research Committee include:
- Following up on postgraduate study plans and assigning students to academic supervisors.
- Monitoring academic supervision reports for postgraduate students.
- Ensuring compliance with regulations governing theses and dissertations.
- Following up on the formation of thesis and dissertation examination committees.
- Preparing the department’s annual scientific research report.
- Organizing scientific seminars and discussion forums.
- Monitoring and reviewing student affairs each semester and ensuring adherence to applicable regulations.
8. Self-Assessment Study Committee
The Self-Assessment Study Committee is responsible for preparing the self-evaluation report required for academic accreditation based on the following standards:
- Standard 1: Program Mission, Objectives, and Learning Outcomes.
- Standard 2: Academic Program and Course Curriculum.
- Standard 3: Academic Program Management.
- Standard 4: Faculty Members.
- Standard 5: Students.
- Standard 6: Academic Program Facilities and Infrastructure.
- Standard 7: Financial Resources of the Academic Program.
- Standard 8: Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement.
