Sana’a – The Department of Graphic Design and Multimedia at the College of Computing and Information Technology, University of Science and Technology (UST), launched its scientific seminar series on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, for fourth-level Graphic Design students. The seminars form part of the program’s graduation requirements and aim to strengthen practical competencies, develop professional skills, and prepare students for successful integration into the labor market.
The series commenced with a seminar titled “The Compass,” which served as a professional and educational platform bringing together academic expertise and industry experience. The seminar highlighted key challenges and opportunities facing designers in today’s job market while presenting real-life experiences intended to inspire students and guide them in building successful career paths.
During the opening session, Dr. Jawed Al-Hammadi, Coordinator of the Graphic Design and Multimedia Program, emphasized that the weekly seminar series, scheduled every Tuesday for more than a month, reflects the department’s and college’s commitment to enhancing the quality of educational outcomes, strengthening the link between academic learning and practical application, and providing students with opportunities to engage directly with industry professionals. He noted that these efforts contribute to preparing qualified graduates capable of innovation, competitiveness, and adaptation to the rapid developments in creative industries and digital transformation.
The seminar featured two main presentations that provided a comprehensive vision of success factors in the fields of graphic design and multimedia.
The first presentation was delivered by Zaher Al-Aghbari, Executive Director of Lamasat Advertising Company and an expert in advertising and marketing. He discussed the concept of building a designer’s professional identity, stressing the importance of developing a distinctive professional profile, creating a strong portfolio that effectively showcases skills to clients and employers, and adopting best practices for accessing career opportunities in local, regional, and international design markets. He also highlighted the strategic use of digital platforms to establish a strong professional presence.
The second presentation, titled “Winning Opportunities and Shaping the Future,” was delivered by Ahmed Al-Jawlabi, Executive Director of iServices for Design, Advertising, and Media Services. His session focused on the importance of self-development, continuous enhancement of technical and interpersonal skills, and building professional networks that can open new career opportunities for graduates. He also shared practical experiences and insights to help emerging designers meet the evolving demands of the labor market and transform challenges into opportunities for success and distinction.
The seminar attracted strong participation and engagement from faculty members, students, designers, content creators, and professionals interested in the creative industries. The event was further enriched by valuable observations and practical advice provided by Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Baidhani, General Manager of iServices, offering guidance relevant to both current students and future graduates.
The program also included interactive and entertainment segments that contributed to a dynamic and engaging atmosphere throughout the event.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Prof. Bilal Al-Fahidi, Dean of the College of Computing and Information Technology, together with Dr. Jawad Al-Hammadi, Head of the Department of Graphic Design and Multimedia, and Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Wassabi, instructor of the Visual Communication Seminar course, honored the seminar speakers in recognition of their academic and professional contributions. Members of the student organizing committee and all individuals involved in the preparation and successful execution of the event were also recognized.
The event was attended by faculty members, professional designers, content creators, students from the program and other universities, as well as parents of the organizing students. Participants praised the quality of organization and the scientific content of the seminar, underscoring the importance of such initiatives in developing students’ capabilities and strengthening their connection to professional practice.
