Sana’a – As part of the University of Science and Technology’s commitment to community service, fifth-level Dental students (Batch 29) conducted a field visit on Monday, August 3, 2026, to the Social Guidance Center for Boys for the rehabilitation of juvenile residents in Sana’a. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of oral and dental health, promote preventive health behaviors, and provide psychological and moral support to the center’s residents.
The visit began with a meeting with the Center’s Director, Mr. Mohammed Al-Arafi, who provided an overview of the institution’s mission, target age groups, and the programs and services it offers in the areas of care, rehabilitation, education, psychological and social guidance, and community reintegration. He also highlighted the center’s efforts to support and rehabilitate juvenile residents and help them successfully reintegrate into society.
Mr. Al-Arafi expressed his sincere appreciation to the University of Science and Technology, and particularly to the Dental students, for their visit, which reflected compassion and humanitarian values. He praised the University’s role in promoting social responsibility and strengthening the values of service and solidarity, especially in supporting vulnerable groups, including juvenile residents.
The field program included a series of awareness sessions delivered by the Dental students, covering the importance of oral and dental hygiene, methods of preventing oral diseases, healthy habits for maintaining teeth and gum health, proper tooth-brushing techniques, and practical health advice for the children.
At the conclusion of the visit, the students distributed toothbrushes, toothpaste, light meals, gifts, and toys to the children in an initiative designed to encourage healthy behaviors and bring joy to the residents.
Dr. Arwa Al-Haj, Chair of the Field Visit Committee at the College of Dentistry, emphasized that such initiatives embody the University’s mission of serving the community while promoting health awareness among different segments of society. She noted that field visits also provide students with valuable opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills through real-world engagement, thereby enhancing both their professional competence and humanitarian values.
This activity forms part of the College of Dentistry’s broader field outreach program, which seeks to strengthen the College’s role in community service, promote health education, and foster the values of volunteerism and social responsibility among students.
