Sana’a – The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) organized a specialized workshop today to develop the mission statements, objectives, graduate attributes, learning outcomes, and study plans for three new academic programs: Bachelor of Respiratory Care, Bachelor of Health Management, and Bachelor of Physical Therapy.
During the opening of the workshop, held under the patronage of Prof. Al-Qasim Mohammed Abbas, President of UST, Prof. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi, Dean of the College, emphasized that the new academic programs represent a direct response to the needs of Yemen’s healthcare sector and align with the demands of both local and regional labor markets.
He noted that the introduction of these specializations is part of the University’s expansion plan to launch high-quality programs that contribute to preparing qualified professionals and strengthening the role of higher education institutions in supporting sustainable development. He reaffirmed UST’s commitment to continuously advancing its academic offerings in partnership with relevant stakeholders to ensure graduates possess both the scientific knowledge and practical competencies needed to compete effectively and serve their communities.
The workshop aimed to establish the academic framework for the new programs through the development of their missions and objectives, identification of graduate attributes, formulation of learning outcomes, and design of study plans in accordance with quality assurance and academic accreditation standards, ensuring the delivery of programs that meet professional requirements.
The workshop was attended by Prof. Munir Al-Makhlafi, representative of the Academic Accreditation Council; Dr. Fahmi Al-Hakimi, Director of UST Hospital; Dr. Moatasim Al-Emad, Medical Director of the Hospital; and several representatives from relevant labor market sectors. Participants shared insights and recommendations regarding the skills and competencies required of graduates, helping to align the proposed programs with the needs of the healthcare sector.
Participants emphasized that the introduction of the Respiratory Care, Physical Therapy, and Health Management programs represents a significant addition to health sciences education in Yemen, contributing to addressing the growing demand for specialized healthcare professions and supplying healthcare institutions with qualified professionals.
