Sana’a – The Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Medical Imaging at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Science and Technology (UST), organized a scientific session on Wednesday, September 3, 2026, as part of the Directed Studies (Case Study) course. The session featured presentations by the first group of students and forms part of the graduation requirements for the program.
Held in the Main Hall at the Female Students Branch, the session aimed to strengthen students’ technical, practical, and clinical competencies by linking theoretical knowledge with real-world applications through the presentation and analysis of diverse clinical cases from various medical specialties.
The cases discussed covered a broad range of conditions, including congenital anomalies, surgical disorders of the gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary systems, vascular diseases, musculoskeletal cysts, as well as gynecological and ear, nose, and throat (ENT) conditions.
The case studies highlighted the vital role of diagnostic medical imaging in achieving accurate diagnoses and guiding treatment plans by physicians. Students also reviewed the technical aspects associated with each case, including imaging protocols and the appropriate use of contrast media according to the nature of the condition.
Head of the Department, Dr. Amin Al-Fallahi, emphasized the importance of this type of training in refining students’ technical and diagnostic skills and enhancing their ability to evaluate radiological images and understand commonly used medical imaging protocols. He noted that such experiences contribute significantly to strengthening students’ capabilities in interpreting medical images and understanding their diagnostic implications.
Dr. Al-Fallahi further highlighted UST’s commitment to advancing medical education and integrating practical applications into academic training in line with labor market needs and professional practice requirements in the field of radiology and medical imaging.
The session concluded with several academic recommendations emphasizing the importance of continuous scientific research and professional development. Students were encouraged to transform the discussed case studies into scientific papers and academic research that contribute to advancing knowledge in radiology and medical imaging.
