This course provides a basic introduction to the principles, methods, and techniques of empirical social research. Topics include the fundamentals of the scientific method and scientific inquiry, ethical considerations in research, basic methods of quantitative and qualitative data collection, and strengths and weaknesses of various data collection methods.

Participants will use these theoretical underpinnings to begin to critically review literature relevant to their field or interests and determine how research findings are useful in informing their understanding of their profession. The course is designed to make students a more informed of scientific research through discussion, analysis, and hands-on practice.

This course is delivered through a combination discussion-based lectures and directed assignments.

2 MPH02 Biostatistics Biostatistics MPH02

Biostatistics course deal essentially with the concepts of statistical reasoning as applied to the study of health, clinical, and pharmacy problems. The topics that will be covered through this course are descriptive statistics, data presentation, normal distribution & standard normal distribution, confidence interval & standard error, hypothesis testing, tests of significance, correlation and simple regression, ANOVA & nonparametric tests, and SPSS.

The concepts of research methodology should be studied in parallel of this course. This course is primarily taught through series of instructor-student interactive lectures, seminars, and assignments.

3 MPP01 Physical Pharmacy Physical Pharmacy MPP01

The main purpose of this course is to provide knowledge of the theoretical principles of physical pharmacy. The course include introduction to physical pharmacy; matter, properties of matter, pharmaceutical product stability, solubility, complexion, colloidal state, viscosity and rheology. The physical pharmacy concept are delivered through a combination discussion-based lectures and directed assignments.

4 MPP02 Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics MPP02

This course is intended to provide the Master of pharmaceutics students with the necessary overview and knowledge about basic and advanced topics in biopharmac-eutics and pharmacokinetics like factors affecting drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion; the students also will learn about dosage adjustment in special populations, linear and nonlinear pharmacokinetics, protein binding and pharmacokinetics and therapeutic drug monitoring.

All topics of this course will be couvered through the interactive lictures, classes touterials and assignments.

This course is designed to provide the Master students with a knowledge on the area of advances in novel drug delivery systems which involve Controlled release dosage forms, Sustained release dosage forms, gastro retentive drug delivery system, Bio-adhesive drug delivery systems, & microspheres, Nanoparticles, Transdermal drug delivery systems, Implantable controlled drug delivery systems.

Polymeric drug delivery system, Liposomes, & proteins. The topics of this course will be deliverd through a combination of the interactive lictures, and assignments.

2 MPP04 Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Pharmaceutical Biotechnology MPP04

This course will provide a more in-depth look at biotechnology. It will emphasize biotechnology application to pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. The pharmacist's role with biotechnology drugs will be discussed. The techniques involved in the production, development and evaluation of biotechnology products will also be discussed.

Technology in genetic engineering and its application to pharmacy and tissue culture will be also addressed. In addition, new biotechnology related techniques, vaccinology; monoclonal antibodies and fermentation will be topics of discussion. Pharmaceutics versus biotechnological companies in terms of products, income and challenges will be covered.

More importantly, some examples of biopharmaceutical products such as recombinant therapeutic proteins, (e.g., insulin, Interferons (IFN), Interleukins (IL); peptides, Monoclonal antibodies (mAb), vaccines, cells such as stem cells, Gene Therapy Medicinal Products (e.g. AAV based therapeutics) will be addressed in this course in terms of process and tools of production using recombinant DNA technology as well as clinical applications, This course will be delivered through a combination discussion-based lectures and directed assignments.
