Sana’a – The Deanship of Development and Quality Assurance at the University of Science and Technology (UST) organized a workshop on Wednesday titled “Developing Assessment Blueprints for Distributing Course Grades Across Academic Program Learning Outcomes” at Al-Sinmar Hall in the University Presidency Building.
The workshop targeted faculty members from various UST colleges and was delivered by Prof. Essam Al-Mizjaji. It aimed to enhance participants’ competencies in designing assessment blueprints based on scientific principles that contribute to improving the quality of the educational process and meeting academic accreditation requirements.
The workshop covered several key topics, including the lifecycle of academic program and course learning outcomes from planning through continuous improvement closure, the alignment of Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) with Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs), and an explanation of the I/R/M/A contribution-level matrix and its applications. Participants also examined methods for developing assessment blueprints and allocating course grades, performance indicators and proficiency levels, formulas for calculating learning outcome achievement rates, and approaches to analyzing assessment results at the student, course, and academic program levels.
In addition, the workshop addressed common challenges in measuring and evaluating learning outcomes, explored their root causes, and reviewed mechanisms for developing continuous improvement plans in line with quality assurance and academic accreditation standards.
Prof. Al-Mizjaji presented both the theoretical and practical aspects of assessment blueprints, highlighting their role in ensuring alignment between academic program outcomes, course content, and assessment methods. He emphasized the importance of standardizing assessment and evaluation tools in accordance with national and international quality standards.
The workshop was held as part of the Deanship’s training plan for the 2027 academic year, which aims to strengthen faculty capabilities, enhance assessment and evaluation practices, and contribute to improving educational outcomes and academic performance across the University.
