Sana’a – The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) organized a specialized workshop today to develop the mission, objectives, graduate attributes, learning outcomes, and study plans for three new academic programs: Bachelor of Respiratory Care, Bachelor of Health Administration, and Bachelor of Physical Therapy.
During the opening ceremony of the workshop, held under the patronage of Prof. Al-Qasim Mohammed Abbas, President of UST, Prof. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized that the new academic programs represent a direct response to the needs of Yemen’s healthcare sector and align with the requirements of both local and regional labor markets. He noted that the introduction of these specializations forms part of the University’s expansion strategy to launch high-quality programs that contribute to preparing qualified professionals and strengthening the role of higher education institutions in supporting sustainable development.
He further reaffirmed UST’s commitment to continuously enhancing its academic offerings in partnership with relevant stakeholders to ensure the preparation of graduates who possess both scientific and practical competencies, enabling them to compete effectively and serve their communities.
The workshop aimed to establish the academic framework for the new programs by developing their mission statements and objectives, defining graduate attributes, formulating learning outcomes, and designing study plans in accordance with quality assurance and academic accreditation standards. These efforts seek to ensure the delivery of educational programs that meet professional and industry requirements.
The workshop was attended by Dr. Muneer Al-Makhlafi, representative of the Academic Accreditation Council; Dr. Fahmi Al-Hakimi, Director of the University of Science and Technology Hospital; Dr. Moatasim Al-Emad, Medical Director of the Hospital; and several representatives from organizations and institutions within the labor market. Participants contributed valuable insights and recommendations regarding the skills and competencies required of graduates, helping to strengthen the alignment between academic programs and the needs of the healthcare sector.
Participants affirmed that the introduction of the Respiratory Care, Physical Therapy, and Health Administration programs represents a significant addition to Yemen’s health education system. These programs are expected to help address the demand for specialized healthcare disciplines and provide healthcare institutions with highly qualified professionals.
