Sana’a – The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) organized an orientation session on Sunday for the Clinical Doctorate Program in Cardiovascular Surgery, aimed at introducing graduates of the Medicine and Surgery Program and internship students to the program’s objectives, significance, admission requirements, and future career prospects.

During the session, Prof. Nabil Al-Mudhawahi, Consultant in Cardiovascular Surgery, commended UST’s decision to launch the program, describing it as a scientific response to a pressing national need amid the significant shortage of specialized cardiac surgeons and the limited number of centers qualified to provide cardiac surgery services locally.
Prof. Al-Mudhawahi emphasized that the program represents a valuable addition to postgraduate medical education in Yemeni universities and will contribute to graduating highly qualified surgeons capable of working in hospitals and specialized medical centers, thereby reducing patients’ suffering and minimizing reliance on treatment abroad.
The session also reviewed major milestones in the global development of cardiovascular surgery, highlighting modern surgical techniques and post-operative care practices. The speaker stressed the importance of intensive clinical training in preparing professionals capable of meeting international standards and competing effectively in the field.
During the event, Prof. Al-Mudhawahi addressed participants’ questions regarding admission requirements, key components of the study plan, practical training opportunities, and future employment prospects for program graduates.
The session was attended by Dr. Mahdi Al-Qarwani, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Clinical Training and Hospital Affairs, and Prof. Waleed Ghailan, Head of Postgraduate Studies at the Faculty. They affirmed that the introduction of this program is part of UST’s strategic plan to expand specialized clinical medicine programs that meet labor market needs and support the healthcare system in Yemen.
