Sana’a – The Center for Medical Education and Training at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST), in collaboration with the Scientific Club, is organizing a specialized training course titled “Psychological First Aid (PFA),” as part of its efforts to promote mental health awareness and build the capacities of professionals working in humanitarian and community fields.

The course aims to equip participants with the skills to provide initial psychological support based on scientific and professional principles, thereby enhancing effective responses to crises and emergency situations. It is delivered by Dr. Abdullah Rassam, a specialist in mental health and psychosocial support.
The training addresses a range of scientific and practical topics, including: concepts of psychosocial support and psychological first aid, types of crises and individuals’ roles in responding to them, psychological first aid for children, mechanisms for group interventions, principles of confidentiality and professional ethics, as well as guidelines on what to do and avoid when providing psychological first aid. The course also covers the fundamentals of psychosocial assessment and intervention, common mental health disorders, and essential skills in psychosocial support and positive parenting.
The course, which commenced today, is scheduled to be held every Wednesday for three weeks. It targets social workers, teachers, volunteers, and all individuals interested in mental health and community work, enhancing their competency in providing psychological support to individuals and communities under various circumstances.
