Sana’a – The Training Unit at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Science and Technology (UST), organized a scientific field visit on Wednesday for fifth-year male and female students to the Yemeni Egyptian Pharmaceutical Industries and Trading Company (YEPCO). The visit was conducted as part of the faculty’s efforts to strengthen practical learning and connect theoretical knowledge with hands-on field training, thereby enhancing students’ professional preparedness and readiness for the labor market.
At the beginning of the visit, the students were received by Dr. Ammar Dhabaan, Technical Director of the company, who welcomed them and emphasized the importance of scientific visits in familiarizing pharmacy students with the realities of the national pharmaceutical industry and its technical and production requirements.
Dr. Dhabaan provided an overview of the company as one of the companies under the Hayel Saeed Anam Group and Partners, highlighting its activities and pharmaceutical products. He noted that the company manufactures approximately 150 pharmaceutical products across a range of therapeutic categories.
He also underscored the importance of quality in pharmaceutical manufacturing and the need to adhere to internationally recognized standards, specifications, and pharmacopeias. He explained that compliance with these requirements is essential to ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of pharmaceutical products, while also strengthening consumer confidence in locally manufactured medicines.
As part of the program, Eng. Amin Al-Qubati introduced the company’s occupational health and safety policy, outlining key workplace safety procedures and requirements. He stressed the importance of adhering to these measures to protect employees and ensure a safe production environment in accordance with approved standards and regulations.
During the visit, students were introduced to several departments and units within the company, including Quality Control, Research and Development, Physical Testing, Chemical Analysis, and Instrumental Analysis. They gained firsthand insight into the technical and production aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing, as well as the procedures followed throughout various stages of production, beginning with the selection and preparation of raw materials, through mixing, formulation, testing, analysis, sample monitoring and inspection, and ending with packaging and final product preparation. They were also briefed on the procedures and standards that ensure product quality and compliance with approved specifications.
The students expressed their appreciation for the visit and the valuable opportunity it provided to learn about the realities of the national pharmaceutical industry. They emphasized that such visits enrich their practical knowledge, strengthen the connection between academic study and professional practice, and equip them with experiences that support their future entry into the workforce.
At the conclusion of the visit, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mahmadi, Training Coordinator at the Faculty of Pharmacy and supervisor of the visit, expressed his gratitude to the management and staff of the Yemeni Egyptian Pharmaceutical Industries and Trading Company for their warm reception, cooperation, and the valuable scientific and technical information they shared with the students. He emphasized the importance of continuing such visits and training programs to strengthen collaboration between academic institutions and the pharmaceutical industry sector.
