Sana’a – Female students of the “Rights and Life” Initiative from the Department of Sharia and Law at the University of Science and Technology (UST) conducted a field visit today to the Juvenile Court and the Social Guidance Home for Boys in Sana’a, which specializes in the care and rehabilitation of juvenile offenders. The visit aimed to familiarize the students with the court’s functions and the legal and judicial procedures involved in handling juvenile cases, thereby enhancing their practical learning experience and enriching their legal and human rights knowledge.
The initiative members were received by Judge Mohammed Al-Khubi, President of the Juvenile Court, and Mr. Mohammed Al-Arafi, Director of the Social Guidance Home. They welcomed the students and commended the initiative as a distinguished effort that reflects university students’ commitment to both practical application and humanitarian engagement. They emphasized the importance of such visits in promoting legal awareness, strengthening social responsibility, and providing psychological support to the home’s residents.
During the visit, the students attended a presentation by the court president, who explained the court’s jurisdiction, operational mechanisms, and the judicial procedures followed in juvenile cases. He also highlighted the court’s role in achieving restorative justice and safeguarding the rights of juveniles, while introducing the humanitarian and social dimensions associated with judicial proceedings and rehabilitation efforts.
In the presence of Mr. Jamal Zaid, UST Community Service Coordinator, the initiative team also organized a number of recreational and interactive activities for the residents of the Juvenile Care Home. These included competitions, games, entertainment programs, and the distribution of light refreshments. The activities aimed to bring joy to the juveniles and provide psychological and social support in an atmosphere characterized by engagement and camaraderie.
Judge Dr. Mansour Al-Sharafi, a faculty member at UST and supervisor of the field visit, praised the efforts of the members of the “Rights and Life” Initiative, led by the outstanding student Shahd Al-Qubati. He commended their awareness, commitment, and sense of responsibility in serving legal and humanitarian causes.
He emphasized that student initiatives represent an important avenue for strengthening the integration of academic study, practical application, and community service.
The “Rights and Life” Initiative seeks to implement legal and humanitarian programs and activities aimed at supporting juveniles from legal, psychological, and social perspectives, enhancing their rehabilitation and reintegration opportunities, raising awareness of their rights, and building effective partnerships with relevant institutions to improve their overall conditions.
At the conclusion of the visit, the President of the Juvenile Court and the Director of the Social Guidance Home were honored in recognition of their cooperation and support. In turn, they also honored the members of the “Rights and Life” Initiative in appreciation of their efforts and contributions.
