Sana’a – The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Science and Technology (UST), held the discussion session for the first graduation project of fourth-year students for the academic year 2025–2026, in the presence of the Dean of the College, Dr. Mohammed Al-Sharafi.
The first student group presented an innovative project entitled “Automated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Device.”
The project team consisted of the following students: Ahmed Rashad Sinan, Al-Baraa Jameel Al-Tayyar, Ahmed Hameed Abu Hussein Mohammed Jamal, and Riyadh Salman.
The project features the development of a smart device capable of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation automatically. The device delivers chest compressions in accordance with approved medical standards while simultaneously providing artificial ventilation to the patient. In addition, it continuously monitors pulse rate and vital signs, contributing to improved emergency response efficiency and increasing patients’ chances of survival.
The discussion committee, comprising Prof. Noman Al-Najjar, Vice President of the University and faculty member in the department; Dr. Mohammed Al-Yadoumi; and Dr. Eng. Hamdi Ghazi, the project supervisor, commended the project’s scientific and engineering quality. They praised its innovative concepts and practical applications, which demonstrate the students’ ability to apply their academic knowledge in developing engineering solutions that serve the healthcare sector. The committee emphasized that the project represents a promising model of graduation projects with meaningful societal impact.
This project is part of a series of graduation projects undertaken by students of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, reflecting UST’s commitment to promoting scientific research and innovation and aligning educational outcomes with the needs of society and the healthcare sector. Such efforts contribute to preparing qualified engineering professionals capable of competitiveness, creativity, and excellence.
