Sana’a- The female third-level students in the Department of Psychology at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) organized an awareness event titled “Ashes That Bloom“, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, in an initiative aimed at highlighting the importance of mental health, enhancing awareness of methods of understanding and expressing emotions, and establishing a culture of seeking psychological support as a conscious step towards recovery and psychological balance.

The organization of the event by the third-level female students came within the framework of UST‘s organization of a group of awareness events on this occasion.

The event, which was held under the supervision of the Dean of the College, the Head of the Psychology Department, and a faculty member, included a number of awareness corners and interactive activities prepared and presented by the female students, aiming to present mental health concepts in interactive ways that contribute to bringing them closer to students, enhancing their awareness of the importance of mental health care, and conscious handling of daily challenges and emotions.

In his speech during the event, the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences affirmed that mental health represents one of the fundamental pillars of human stability and balance in various aspects of life, stressing the importance of enhancing psychological awareness in the university environment and creating safe spaces for dialogue and expression of emotions, contributing to establishing a culture of understanding and responsible handling of psychological challenges.

The Dean of the College praised the efforts of the female students of the Department of Psychology in preparation and organization, appreciating their role in presenting an awareness initiative that reflects their awareness of the importance of social responsibility and highlights the role of student activities in employing academic knowledge to serve the community. He also emphasized the importance of these initiatives in developing the students’ skills, enhancing their spirit of initiative, and linking the theoretical side with practical application.

The “Ashes That Bloom” event reflects the College of Humanities and Social Sciences‘ interest in enhancing the presence of mental health issues in university activities, establishing concepts of psychological support and human empathy, and contributing to building a more aware and understanding educational environment for students’ psychological needs, supporting their psychological and social growth and enhancing their ability to face challenges.

The event, in its title “Ashes That Bloom“, carries a humanitarian message affirming that recovery is possible, that passing through pain does not mean the end of the road, and that expressing feelings and seeking help represent two important steps towards restoring balance and renewing hope; for even in the most difficult circumstances, a person retains the ability to rise and start anew.
