1- Social Media Use and its Effect on Oral and Dental Health among Students at University of Science and Technology, Sana’a Yemen

In recent years, social media platforms have become one of the primary sources of health information for many individuals, including information related to oral and dental health [1,2]. People increasingly rely on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube to obtain advice about oral hygiene, dental treatments, and aesthetic dental procedures [2,3]. This growing dependence may contribute to improving oral health awareness and encouraging preventive behaviors; however, it also increases the risk of exposure to inaccurate or non-scientific information, which may negatively influence oral health decisions [1,4]. Therefore, studying the impact of social media on oral health is essential to understanding its role in shaping public knowledge, attitudes, and oral health behaviors

Aim: The objective of present study is primarily to investigate the awareness of ergonomics and prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among dental professionals and students. Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 dentists at Al-Rashid University in Sana’a City, Yemen, using a self-administered questionnaire. Participants were selected through convenience sampling and provided informed consent. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 27 with descriptive statistics, including frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations, at a significance level of p < 0.05.Results:Among 200 participants, most were aged 20–24 years (56%), female (80%), undergraduate students or general dentists (79.5%), with less than 5 years of experience (78.5%) and practicing in dental colleges (71%). Over half worked less than 4 hours daily (51%) and 4–5 days weekly (57%), and only 50.5% took work breaks.Neck (78.3%), lower back (69.2%), and shoulder pain (61.1%) were the most common symptoms. Most participants reported moderate pain (76%), which negatively affected work performance in 55.5%. Pain severity was significantly associated with reduced work performance (p < 0.001), while no associations were found with demographic, professional, work-related, or ergonomic factors (p > 0.05). Regular physical exercise was significantly associated with lower pain severity (p = 0.041). Long working hours (29.5%), awkward posture (28.5%), and work-related stress (25.5%) were the most commonly perceived contributing factors. Conclusion: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are common among dentists and dental students in Sana’a City, Yemen, particularly affecting the neck, lower back, and shoulders, and are associated with reduced work performance. Regular physical exercise appears to have a protective effect, highlighting the need for ergonomic and preventive interventions in dental practice. 12- The Impact of Psychological Stress on the Health of the Temporomandibular Joint among Dental Students in Sana’a city, Yemen

Background: The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex joint essential for mastication and speech and is prone to functional and pathological disorders. Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are characterized by pain and/or functional limitations affecting the TMJ, masticatory muscles, and related structures, with symptoms including pain, joint sounds, restricted movement, and headaches. TMD has a multifactorial etiology involving behavioral, parafunctional, and psychological factors. Psychological stress and anxiety play a key role in increasing muscle activity and parafunctional habits, contributing to TMD development. University students, particularly dental students, are at increased risk due to academic and clinical stress. However, data on TMD prevalence and its psychosocial associations among dental students in Yemen are limited. Therefore, this study aims to assess TMD prevalence among dental students in Sana’a and examine its association with psychological stress, anxiety, parafunctional habits, sleep patterns, and selected demographic factors. Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on January 8, 2024, at Al-Hikma University and Al-Rasheed Smart University in Sana’a, Yemen, to evaluate the impact of dental students. The study included 100 undergraduate students (50 from each university) selected by simple random sampling. Data were collected using a self-administered structured questionnaire covering demographic characteristics, TMJ pain, TMD-related symptoms, , functional impact, quality of life, and health awareness. Pain severity was assessed using a numerical rating scale (0–10), and stress and anxiety using a five-point Likert scale. Participation was voluntary with informed consent, and confidentiality was ensured. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 27. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed, including Chi-square tests, Spearman’s correlation, t-tests or non-parametric equivalents, and logistic regression. A p-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Among 100 dental students, 71% reported TMJ pain, mostly mild or moderate, intermittent, and short in duration. Joint clicking (44%) and pain during yawning (32%) or chewing (27%) were common. Parafunctional habits—night bruxism (32%), stress-induced clenching (68%), and masticatory muscle fatigue (55%)—were prevalent, with night bruxism and muscle/occlusal changes significantly associated with TMJ pain (p ≤ 0.007). High academic stress (67%) and anxiety (56%) correlated with TMD severity (r = 0.524, p < 0.001), while sleep patterns were not significant. TMJ pain impaired concentration (44%) and eating (35%) (p = 0.004). Gender influenced anxiety and TMJ pain, whereas age, academic year, university, and study hours showed minimal impact. Conclusion: Temporomandibular disorder symptoms are highly prevalent among dental students, mainly mild to moderate in intensity. Psychological stress, anxiety, and parafunctional habits—especially night bruxism and masticatory muscle fatigue—are major contributors to TMJ pain, while sleep factors have minimal impact. These results underscore stress as a key determinant of TMJ health. Key Words: Temporomandibular disorders, TMJ pain, Dental students, Psychological stress, Anxiety, Parafunctional habits, Bruxism, Masticatory muscle fatigue, Sleep, Quality of life.

13- Prevalence of Dental Caries among Dental Students in Sana’a city, Yemen Background: Dental caries is a chronic, multifactorial, infectious disease characterized by the demineralization of dental hard tissues due to bacterial activity within dental plaque. Its development is influenced by frequent intake of fermentable carbohydrates, the presence of cariogenic microorganisms, and host susceptibility. Globally, dental caries is considered one of the most common non-communicable diseases, significantly impacting quality of life by interfering with functions such as eating, speaking, and social interaction. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly all adults worldwide are affected to some degree, with increasing prevalence observed in developing countries due to poor oral hygiene practices, high sugar consumption, limited fluoride exposure ,and inadequate access to dental services. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of dental caries among undergraduate dental students. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from December 13–16, 2025, at Civilization University and the University of Science and Technology in Sana’a, Yemen. A structured, self-administered questionnaire was distributed to dental students from all academic years to assess their knowledge, hygiene practices, and prevalence of dental caries. The questionnaire covered sociodemographic, awareness, oral hygiene habits, and caries history. Data were analyzed using SPSS v27 with descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests for associations, considering p ≤ 0.05 statistically significant. Results: The study included 219 dental students, predominantly aged 20-25 years (61.2%) and mostly female (75.8%). Dental caries prevalence was high, with 79.9% of participants reporting a history of caries. No significant association was found between gender and caries prevalence (p = 0.516). However, a significant relationship existed between academic level and caries prevalence (p = 0.013), with the highest rates observed in fifth-year students (17.4%) and the lowest among dental interns (5.9%). Conclusion: The study reveals a high prevalence of dental caries among undergraduate dental students, with nearly 80 % affected, mostly in early or mild stages. A significant correlation was found between academic level and caries prevalence, while no significant links were observed with gender, oral hygiene, diet, genetics, or quality of life. The findings highlights= the complex factors influencing caries development and indicate gaps in dental care utilization, as many affected students had not received treatment. Effect of Tongue Brushing on Halitosis in Adolescents Between 15-20 Years High School in Sana`a city 2025

Introduction: Bad breath refers to breath odors originating in the mouth that others find unpleasant. Since this can play an important role in social communication, managing bad breath is important from both a social and a health perspective. Halitosis is a common problem in humans, and is a social and psychological handicap for those affected by it. Halitosis has a positive correlation with the accumulation of bacterial plaque in the oral cavity. Objective: To evaluate Effect of Tongue Brushing on Halitosis in Adolescents Between 15-20 Years in High School of Sana`a city Methods: The subjects of the investigation are 113 adolescents who answer and whose average age have 17 ± 3 years. Study: The presen cross-sectional closed-ended questionnaire-based study was conducted from January 12, 2025 to January 24, 2025 in Sana’a city. By means of an on-line questionnaire filled out by the population itself. Results: The results confirmed the importance of cleaning the tongue regularly, the number of times you clean the tongue, using toothpaste, brushing your teeth regularly, the number of times you brush your teeth, the duration of using the toothbrush, and specifying the specific tongue brush, meaning that there is a very strong relationship between these variables and bad breath. Conclusion: This study gives an overlap that participants were aware that not brushing the tongue increases bad breath and related complaints, but they weren’t sure about it. We need to raise awareness of the oral changes that occur due to not brushing the tongue and the importance of brushing the tongue to reduce if not get rid of bad breath. This study shows that there is a relationship between brushing the tongue and bad breath, so we need to raise awareness of the importance of cleaning the tongue and pay attention to oral health. 16- Prevalence of children who need orthodontic treatment among patients attending training dental clinics at university of science and technology Sana’a Selection of patients for orthodontic treatment consists of both objective
and subjective indications. While objective orthodontic treatment need is based
on specialists’ clinical findings, subjective orthodontic treatment need involves
several factors among which self-perception of orthodontic treatment need is one.
Dental aesthetics is a key factor for patients seeking orthodontic treatment – especially
among teens and young adults [1]. Even if malocclusions can affect perception of dental
aesthetics [2], the child’s perception of both dental aesthetics and orthodontic treatment
need is important to consider, to obtain cooperation and motivation during the orthodontic treatment [3] Information about a patient’s self-perceived need for orthodontic treatment is
an important part of the professional orthodontic treatment plan [4]. Criteria for the definition of attractiveness can vary between different communities and influence the thresholds for orthodontic treatment [5–7]. Most children perceive dental appearance as an important
factor in facial appearance or aesthetics [8], and aesthetics has been found to contribute to psychosocial well-being [9] and correlate with self-esteem among children
and teens [10,11]. Previous studies investigated the effect of some factors on self-perceived orthodontic treatment needs with diverging results [5,6,9–14]. Studying self-perceived orthodontic treatment need – in different age groups – allows us to determine the age at
which children can evaluate aesthetic malocclusion and realize their need for orthodontic treatment.
