Sana’a – The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) today discussed an outstanding graduation project presented by female students of the General Medicine and Surgery Program, entitled:
“Ocular Manifestations of Autoimmune Diseases among Ophthalmic Patients Attending Al-Barrag Eye Center in Sana’a, Yemen, 2025”.
The research addressed ocular symptoms associated with autoimmune diseases, focusing on several key scientific aspects, most notably the prevalence of autoimmune diseases among patients; the identification of the most prominent conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus; the main ocular symptoms reported by patients with autoimmune diseases previously diagnosed by internal medicine physicians; the most common ophthalmic diagnoses associated with these cases; and an analysis of the relationship between certain autoimmune diseases and their accompanying ocular manifestations.
The findings of the study, supervised by Dr. Abdullah Al‑Makhlafi and Dr. Abdulmagni Al‑Barrag, highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary integration—particularly between internal medicine and ophthalmology—in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients, given its significant role in early detection and the reduction of complications.
Dr. Doaa Mutahar, who examined the students, commended the distinguished scientific standard of the research and the efforts exerted in data collection and analysis, emphasizing the importance of such studies in strengthening scientific research and linking academic education with clinical practice.
It is worth noting that the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has conducted a number of graduation research discussions for female medical and surgery students over the past few days, covering several important medical topics. The students presented scientifically supported findings based on analysis and study, reflecting their research capabilities and their ability to comprehend medical knowledge and apply it in practice.
At the conclusion of the discussions, the students expressed their happiness at reaching this important milestone in their academic journey, affirming their aspiration to continue striving for excellence in their professional lives and to serve the healthcare sector with efficiency and competence.
