4. Scientific Breakthroughs, Projects & Academic Awards

Genetic Breakthrough & NCBI Submissions:
Discovered 57 novel mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes responsible for causing breast cancer among Yemeni women (2018). These mutations have been published and integrated into the global Database of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (dbSNP – NCBI) with dedicated reference (rs) numbers. This was accompanied by the direct sequence submission of 200 Partial Sequences and CDS features for BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes to the NCBI GenBank database.

Active Research Projects:
Principal Investigator for the project titled: “The role of oral contraceptive pills on increasing the risk of breast cancer among Yemeni women” – Al-Nasser University (2020).

Academic Awards & Honors:

  • Award for Elite Genetic Discovery: Awarded by the Sudanese Ministry of Higher Education & the Yemeni Students Union (2019) in recognition of the breakthrough breast cancer gene mutations discovery.
  • First Rank Award in Bachelor’s Degree: Continuous Excellence University Award, Al-Neelain University (2004).
