Sana’a – The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) discussed a distinguished graduation research project today conducted by students of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery program, entitled:
“Ocular Manifestations of Autoimmune Diseases among Ophthalmic Patients Attending Al-Barrag Eye Center in Sana’a, Yemen, 2025.”
The study addressed the ocular manifestations associated with autoimmune diseases and focused on several important scientific areas, including:
- The prevalence of autoimmune diseases among patients.
- Identification of the most common autoimmune conditions, including rheumatoid diseases and systemic lupus erythematosus.
- The major ocular symptoms experienced by patients diagnosed with autoimmune diseases by internal medicine specialists.
- The most common ophthalmic diagnoses associated with these conditions.
- The relationship between specific autoimmune diseases and their accompanying ocular manifestations.
The research, supervised by Dr. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi and Dr. Abdulmughni Al-Barrag, highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly between internal medicine and ophthalmology, in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients. Such collaboration plays a vital role in early detection and reducing disease-related complications.
During the discussion, Dr. Doaa Mutahhar, who served as the examiner, commended the students for the high scientific quality of their work and their efforts in data collection and analysis. She emphasized the significance of such studies in promoting scientific research and strengthening the integration of academic learning with clinical practice.
It is noteworthy that the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has recently conducted several graduation research discussions for medical students, covering a range of important medical topics. The studies presented scientific findings supported by thorough analysis and investigation, reflecting the students’ research capabilities and their ability to apply medical knowledge in practical settings.
At the conclusion of the discussions, the students expressed their satisfaction with reaching this important milestone in their academic journey and affirmed their commitment to continuing excellence in their professional careers and contributing effectively to the healthcare sector.
