Sana’a – The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) has commenced the discussion of graduation research projects submitted by final-year students of the Medicine and Surgery Program, as part of the requirements for earning the bachelor’s degree. The discussions were attended by Dr. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi, Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Mahdi Al-Qarawani, Vice Dean for Clinical Training and Hospitals Affairs; and a number of faculty members.
The discussions, which began yesterday, featured two significant research projects conducted by groups of female students in the program:
- Prevalence of Cataracts and Associated Risk Factors Among Eye Clinic Attendees in Sana’a Aged Over 40 Years, a study that highlights one of the leading causes of visual impairment among older adults.
- Prevalence of Suspected Symptoms Associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Among Patients Attending Selected Hospitals in Sana’a in 2025, a study aimed at supporting early detection and improving the quality of healthcare services.
The examination committee praised the high scientific standard of the research projects and their practical significance, emphasizing the pivotal role of scientific research in advancing the healthcare sector and enhancing the quality of medical education.
Dr. Al-Makhlafi also stressed the importance of integrating academic learning with practical clinical training to prepare qualified medical professionals capable of meeting community healthcare needs efficiently and effectively.
These research discussions, along with the constructive feedback provided to students and the encouragement to further develop their studies, reflect the Faculty’s ongoing commitment to strengthening medical education, supporting scientific research, and serving the community.
