Sana’a – As part of the graduation projects for the 2025–2026 academic year, a team of female students from the Information Systems Department – Business Intelligence specialization at the College of Computing and Information Technology at the University of Science and Technology successfully developed an intelligent system for traffic management and monitoring under the name “SmartTraffic Yemen System.” The project aims to provide a practical technological solution to address traffic congestion and road‑accident challenges in Yemen.

The system relies on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Vision technologies to analyze video streams in real time through a network of smart cameras. It performs several key functions, including:
  • High‑accuracy vehicle detection and tracking
  • Automatic License Plate Recognition
  • Instant detection and documentation of traffic accidents
  • Sending immediate alerts upon identifying wanted or stolen vehicles
Key Components of the System:
  • Intelligent Video System for Accident Detection and Documentation:
Automatically analyzes video, detects accidents, and saves recordings to support relevant authorities.
  • Specialized Cameras for Identifying Wanted Vehicles:
Utilizes license plate recognition technology and sends real-time alerts when matching database records.
  • Integrated Traffic Database and Records System:
Stores vehicle data, incident reports, violations, and accident history.
  • Analytical Dashboard:
    Provides real-time statistics such as:
traffic density, number of accidents, violating vehicles, traffic performance indicators, and a congestion prediction engine based on pattern analysis and historical data.
  • Analytical Reports for Decision Support:
Helps authorities develop more efficient traffic management strategies.
  • Mobile Application for Citizens:
Offers traffic alerts, accident reporting, stolen vehicle reporting, and access to road conditions.
Project Objectives:
  • Reduce traffic accidents
  • Improve traffic management and flow
  • Enhance public safety
  • Provide accurate, real‑time data to relevant authorities
  • Engage citizens as active partners in traffic‑safety ecosystems
  • Support national initiatives toward smart‑city projects
The system was successfully tested, forming a practical prototype that can be further developed and deployed in future digital transformation initiatives.
