Sana’a – The Development and Quality Assurance Deanship at the University of Science and Technology organized a workshop to launch the preparation of the University’s third strategic plan. The event was attended by the University’s leadership, the Development and Quality Assurance Deanship, college deans, and department directors, as part of UST’s ongoing commitment to strengthening strategic planning and fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
At the opening of the workshop, University President Prof. al-Qasim Mohammed Abbas delivered a keynote address emphasizing that developing the new strategy marks a pivotal step in advancing the University’s trajectory. He highlighted the importance of teamwork and synergy among colleges and administrative units to ensure the creation of a realistic, implementable strategic plan capable of addressing challenges and leveraging emerging opportunities.
The University President noted that the coming phase requires a clear vision and measurable goals grounded in a rigorous scientific analysis of internal and external environments. Such an approach, he said, will enhance academic and administrative performance and reinforce the University’s standing at the local and regional levels.
For his part, Vice President Prof. Nu’man al-Najjar explained that the University has faced exceptional challenges in recent years due to the broader circumstances affecting the country—conditions that have had significant consequences for various sectors, foremost among them higher education. He added that these challenges have simultaneously provided an incentive to strengthen institutional resilience, reprioritize key areas, and adopt solutions that ensure continuity of operations and the achievement of quality benchmarks.
The Vice President also expressed confidence in the University’s faculty and staff, affirming their ability to translate the forthcoming strategic vision into tangible outcomes that positively influence the University’s performance and its service to society.
During the workshop, lead presenter Prof. Mohammed Abdul-Latif al-Sharjabi outlined the stages and procedural steps for developing the strategic plan. He explained the adopted methodology, which includes conducting a situational analysis, defining the University’s vision, mission, and values, formulating strategic goals and indicators, and ultimately preparing implementation plans alongside monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
