Such strategy aims at enhancing students' abilities to independently formulate treatment plans for orthodontic patients with Class I, Class II and Class III malocclusions. Biology of tooth movement is another part of this course. Basic and advanced concepts related to orthodontically induced tooth movement are covered Furthermore, the course includes seminars directed at the discussion of original articles related to the major core topics of this course in addition to the iatrogenic effects of orthodontic treatment. |

Clinical Orthodontics 1 is the first part of the clinical training of the master's program at the end of which each trainee should be equipped with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies to provide the services of a specialist Orthodontist to the general public. To start with, the trainees would be supervised to attend to patients visiting the clinics for advice, consultation and treatment. It will be required the trainee make a primary evaluation for the status of the malocclusion and estimate the need and eligibility for treatment. Clinic supervisors should provide the necessary assistance. Each trainee is also trained to prepare a diagnostic file and records, present cases to supervising staff in a case discussion session. Each resident should start with 5 cases with Class I malocclusion and then start with other cases with more complicated problems. The trainees could also attend case discussions presented by senior trainees or peers. It would also be required that the trainees give time for self-learning and out of clinic reading hours to integrate the theoretical knowledge with the practical application. |

The training program shall include clinical training consisting of diagnosis, treatment planning assessment of new and review patients as well as personal treatment of patients. Every trainee will continue to take recruit new patients and add to his/her patient list until the clinical requirement enlisted in clinical orthodontics 1 is completed (40 cases with variety of malocclusions. The continued attendance of case discussion groups, clinical training will gradually improve their experience. Experience at this stage should be extended to more complicated cases and to advanced stage of fixed appliance therapy (space closure stage). By the end of this course, it is expected that each trainee should have reached the required number of cases he/her should take in for personal treatment. |
