Sana’a – The Faculty of Administrative and Human Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) organized a scientific workshop today to review and approve the mission, objectives, study plan, and learning outcomes of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Accounting. This program is considered the first specialized PhD in accounting in the Republic of Yemen, as part of the University’s efforts to develop and enhance the quality of postgraduate programs.
The workshop included a comprehensive review of the program’s curriculum development stages, in the presence of the Faculty leadership, heads of academic departments, the representative of the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council, Prof. Muneer Al-Makhlafi, as well as a distinguished group of academics, accounting experts, faculty members, students, and representatives of the labor market and professional institutions.
The workshop aimed to align the program’s mission, objectives, and learning outcomes with national academic standards and accreditation requirements, ensuring the preparation of qualified research professionals capable of advancing accounting knowledge and improving professional practices in both the public and private sectors.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Munther Ishaq, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized that launching the PhD program in Accounting represents a significant advancement in higher education in Yemen. As the first specialized doctoral program in this field nationwide, it responds to the needs of the labor market and academic institutions for highly qualified researchers capable of generating knowledge and providing scientific solutions to contemporary accounting challenges.
Participants also discussed the alignment of the curriculum components with modern trends in accounting education and scientific research, as well as the requirements of economic development, aiming to enhance graduates’ ability to contribute effectively to knowledge production.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations to further improve the program’s quality and complete its accreditation requirements in accordance with best academic practices. This reflects UST’s commitment to offering high-quality postgraduate programs that serve the community and support the knowledge-based economy.
