Radio and Television Program

The Radio and Television Media Program was established within the Department of Social Sciences at the College of Administrative and Human Sciences in the academic year 2009/2010. In the academic year 2011/2012, the program became part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The duration of study in the program is four academic years, divided into eight academic semesters.

The program aims to supply the local and regional community with highly qualified competencies by providing students with both theoretical and practical knowledge, and by graduating professionally trained cadres in the field of radio and television arts and technologies, in a manner that meets community service needs and the requirements of the local and regional labor market. The first cohort of graduates completed the program in the academic year 2012/2013.

First: Achievements of the Specialization

1. Establishment of Integrated Media Programs

  • The Media Program (Radio and Television) and the Public Relations and Advertising Program were launched within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in the academic year 2009–2010.
  • Comprehensive coverage of visual and audio media fields, as well as institutional communication.

2. Provision of Applied Infrastructure
The establishment of:

  • An electronic radio station
    These facilities support practical training and strengthen the integration between theoretical and applied aspects.

The Media Program (Radio and Television) seeks to provide distinguished educational, taining, and consultancy services in the fields of radio and television arts, through the use of modern technological tools. The program contributes to community development and meets the needs of the local and regional labor market, in accordance with Total Quality Management standards, while upholding accuracy in performance and integrity in professional practice.
  1. Enhancing the quality of education for male and female students and upgrading its methods in a way that ensures the qualitative excellence of program outcomes and achieves local and regional academic accreditation.

Upon completion of the program, the graduate will be able to:

Knowledge and Understanding (A)

A1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of general and institutional culture, and comprehend the requirements of communication and information skills in both Arabic and English.
A2. Explain terminology and concepts related to media and the basic sciences of media in general, and to propaganda, public opinion, radio and television arts, new media, and multimedia in particular.
A3. Clarify radio and television production and its techniques, starting from idea selection, preparation, presentation, photography, and directing, through to the production of various program formats.
A4. Describe the scientific stages required for media planning, radio and television programs, and media campaigns, as well as appropriate methods for measuring and surveying public opinion and tracking its various impacts.
A5. Identify concepts related to reading skills, research skills, leadership skills, computer technologies, and the rules of translation.

Intellectual Skills (B)
B1. Relate religious concepts, general culture, and terminology associated with political, economic, social, and intellectual phenomena to media practices.
B2. Propose ideas and various radio and television program formats, and the methods of preparing, editing, presenting, filming, producing, and directing them.
B3. Distinguish between concepts and theories related to the basic sciences of media, propaganda, public opinion, radio and television arts, and the factors affecting radio and television performance.
B4. Critically evaluate dramatic works, documentary and informational films, advertisements, and other radio and television programs in light of recognized professional standards.
B5. Plan radio and television production and media campaigns, select appropriate research methodologies for radio and television studies, measure public opinion, and apply methods of analysis.

Professional and Practical Skills (C)
C1. Prepare and implement an integrated radio and television research project, as well as radio and television programs according to various program formats, and practice professional training in this regard.
C2. Apply linguistic rules and professional skills in translating, editing, and writing radio and television programs and their techniques.
C3. Use all necessary equipment and devices, including computers and their applications, in the production of radio and television programs.
C4. Practice leadership, planning, preparation, presentation, effective communication, and scientific critique of dramatic works and program content in radio and television in accordance with the scientific standards of the specialization.
C5. Apply theoretical concepts related to the basic sciences to practical aspects in the fields of media, propaganda, public opinion, and radio and television arts.
