Sana’a – The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) witnessed the defense of a scientific graduation research project conducted by a group of students from the Department of Medicine and Surgery. The study, titled “Risk Factors Associated with Esophageal Cancer Among Patients Attending Oncology Centers in Sana’a During the Period 2025–2026,” was designed as a hospital-based case-control study.

The research was prepared by the students: Osama Zaid Aslan, Ayman Ali Al-Kamel, Bashar Mohammed Maqran, Majed Mohammed Al-Kathiri, and Abdulrahman Mohammed Al-Sha’arawi, under the supervision of Dr. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi. Dr. Amal Al-Ahmadi served as the examiner and scientifically evaluated the study.
During the discussion session, the researchers presented the study’s objectives, scientific methodology, and the mechanisms used for data collection and analysis from oncology centers. They also highlighted the key findings regarding factors contributing to an increased risk of esophageal cancer among patients in the capital, Sana’a.
The study emphasized the importance of strengthening health awareness regarding disease-related risk factors and supporting prevention and early detection programs, which would contribute to improving healthcare quality and reducing incidence rates.
The examination committee commended the scientific quality of the research and the efforts exerted by the researchers, noting that the study represents a valuable scientific contribution that supports local epidemiological research and provides data that can be utilized in developing future health plans.

The discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Dr. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi, along with several faculty members of the College of Medicine.
