Dean’s Message

Dear Students,

It gives me great pleasure—filled with warmth and joy—to extend to you the sincerest welcome to your Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology. This esteemed institution has proudly stood as a pillar of medical education for over 30 years. With unwavering support from the university’s leadership, the tireless efforts of its staff, and the outstanding performance of its students and graduates, the faculty has earned prominent regional and global rankings, in addition to undeniable local leadership.

Our faculty proudly achieved a significant milestone by being the first to receive programmatic academic accreditation for the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery program from the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council, in accordance with the global standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). Furthermore, we were among the first medical faculties in Yemen to sign agreements with the council to prepare additional programs—Medical Laboratories, Clinical Nutrition, and Diagnostic Radiology—for academic accreditation. We have made great progress in this field, completing the self-study phase for all three programs, which is a crucial initial step toward full accreditation.

As the first private medical college in the Republic of Yemen, our faculty has made tremendous and distinguished strides since its establishment in 1994. Our graduates have earned a strong reputation—not only locally and regionally, but globally—allowing them to pursue postgraduate studies and professional careers across the world: from the Americas and Canada, through Europe, the Middle East, and the Gulf, to Australia.

The assessments from international institutions, such as the University of Liverpool Medical School Expert Committee Report in 2000 and the Canadian Medical Delegation Reports from 2009 to 2011, were badges of honor we take pride in. They highlighted our excellence and confirmed our leadership in medical education in Yemen.

We have spared no effort and mobilized all resources to provide an elite and distinguished learning environment and to recruit top-tier teaching staff. Most recently, we equipped our anatomy lab with plastinated human specimens and added a significant number of new faculty members across basic and clinical departments, joining an already outstanding team. We also offer the largest clinical training network available to medical students in Yemen, through our university hospital and major hospitals and primary healthcare centers across the capital.

In addition, our faculty was a pioneer in adopting a modern, community-oriented medical curriculum, being the first in Yemen to do so since its inception. All of this ensures that our students receive the best theoretical and practical education possible, allowing your faculty to soar as a national institution with global wings.

Your college was also the first in Yemen to launch educational programs tailored to the community’s health needs—such as the Bachelor’s programs in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics and Diagnostic Radiology—becoming a reference for both public and private universities. We are now proud to announce the launch of the Master’s in Clinical Nutrition, the first of its kind in our beloved country, with more postgraduate programs to follow soon, God willing, providing new opportunities for our graduates and others wishing to pursue advanced studies.

I warmly welcome you all—whether you are new students in your first year or returning students in advanced years—at the beginning of the academic year 1446 AH / 2024–2025 AD to this great institution: Your elite college, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology.

Wishing you a successful and fulfilling academic year.

May Allah grant us success.

Dr. Abdullah Abdu Al-Makhlafi
Dean of the Faculty
