The Medicine and Surgery Program is committed to enhancing students’ practical and research skills through a comprehensive set of field, service, and academic activities structured across different levels as follows:

Field Activity Levels
These activities are distributed across various academic levels as outlined below:
Level One:
Students visit a range of institutions concerned with public health and the environment, including:
  • The Public Cleaning Authority.
  • Environmental Protection agencies.
  • The General Corporation for Water and Sanitation.
  • The Ministry of Agriculture (to observe pest control practices related to harmful insecticides).
  • The Ministry of Public Health (to review the general health situation).

Level Two:
Activities at this level focus on epidemiological aspects through visits to institutions specialized in disease surveillance and immunization, such as:
  • The National Epidemiological Surveillance Program.
  • The National Immunization Program.
  • The Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program.
  • The Malaria Control Program and Primary Healthcare Programs.

Level Three:
Visits at this level are dedicated to institutions dealing with chronic diseases and community-oriented activities, including:
  • Diabetes and Hypertension Centers.
  • Cancer Control Centers and the National Cancer Foundation.
  • The National Health Education Program.
Level Four:
This level emphasizes professional exposure through visits to industrial facilities to study occupational health risks and methods of prevention and mitigation.


Service and Research Components
Field Service Training:
Students are divided into groups assigned to schools, institutes, primary healthcare centers, and factories. These groups engage in raising health awareness and implementing educational programs through:
  • Brochures and printed materials.
  • Awareness lectures.
  • Participation in radio programs.
Research Component (Level Six):
Final-year students select significant community health issues and conduct rigorous scientific research encompassing all stages of the research process. Several of these studies have been published in specialized medical journals.


Cultural and Sports Activities
  • Scientific and Cultural Competitions: Regular competitions are organized among academic levels to foster teamwork and continuous knowledge development.
  • Sports Activities: Football and chess tournaments are held as regular recreational outlets to maintain a balance between academic pressure and psychological well-being.

Alumni Club:
The Alumni Club maintains ongoing engagement with graduates, fostering continuous professional and personal development. It provides training courses, workshops, and guidance to prepare graduates for the labor market. The club also offers recommendations to enhance academic programs at the University of Science and Technology (UST) and coordinates with employers to secure suitable training and employment opportunities for graduates.

The Medicine and Surgery Program at the University of Science and Technology (UST) is committed to enhancing students’ practical and research competencies through structured summer and field training. The program provides an enabling academic and training environment designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for excellence and professional distinction as competent physicians upon graduation, through the following:

  1. A Comprehensive and Up-to-Date Curriculum:
    A well-designed curriculum aligned with nationally accredited standards and consistent with international benchmarks.
  2. Advanced Infrastructure:
    Well-equipped laboratories that meet global standards, supporting high-quality practical and experimental training.
  3. Integrated Practical Application:
    Continuous hands-on training accompanying the curriculum across all academic levels and stages.
  4. Early Clinical Skills Training:
    Clinical skills training from the first to the third levels through a dedicated Skills Lab, fully equipped to achieve the intended educational objectives.
  5. Progressive Clinical Practice:
    Clinical application from the fourth to sixth levels, including the internship year, conducted across multiple hospitals—beginning with the University of Science and Technology Hospital (UST Hospital) and extending to other affiliated hospitals and medical centers.
