Sana’a – The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UST as begun the defense of graduation research for final-year students in the Medicine and Surgery Program, as part of the requirements for earning the Bachelor’s degree. The discussions were attended by the Dean of the College, Dr. Abdullah Al-Makhlafi, the Vice Dean for Clinical Training and Hospitals, Dr. Mahdi Al-Qurwani, along with a number of faculty members.
The discussions, which commenced yesterday, included the defense of two significant scientific studies conducted by a group of female students in the program:

The Prevalence of Cataracts and Associated Risk Factors Among Patients Aged Over 40 Visiting Ophthalmology Clinics in Sana’a, a study that highlights one of the most common causes of visual impairment among older adults.

The Prevalence of Suspected Symptoms Associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Among Patients Visiting Selected Hospitals in Sana’a for the Year 2025, a study that contributes to enhancing early detection and improving the quality of healthcare.
The examination committee praised the distinguished academic quality of the research and its practical relevance, affirming the pivotal role of scientific research in advancing the health sector and elevating the quality of medical education.
The Dean of the College also emphasized the importance of linking academic study with hands-on clinical training to prepare qualified medical professionals capable of meeting the needs of the community with competence and proficiency.
These scientific discussions and the enrichment of research with constructive feedback—alongside encouraging students to further develop their work—come as part of the College’s ongoing efforts to strengthen medical education, support scientific research, and serve the community.
