Sana’a – The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Science and Technology (UST) in Sana’a launched today the discussion of final-year graduation projects for students completing the requirements of the Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics program for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The graduation project, presented by students Hamas Al-Badhani, Ruba Al-Ghabari, Horia Moharram, Mariam Al-Khoulani, Ruqaya Nahshal, Aya Salah, and Hanan Al-Dimashqi, focused on moderate acute malnutrition among children under five years of age in Yemen and its prevalence rates according to World Health Organization (WHO) standards. The project also provided recommendations to improve food quality and proposed practical solutions to enhance child health through the innovation of a safe, ready-to-use supplementary food product designed to treat moderate acute malnutrition in this age group. The product was developed in accordance with WHO and UNICEF guidelines under the title: “Innovation of Ready-to-Use Supplementary Product to Treat Moderate Acute Malnutrition in Children of Yemen.”
The discussion committee, comprising Prof. Mansour Ghaleb and Dr. Nabil Al-Hajj, praised the quality of the project, emphasizing that it offers practical solutions to address child malnutrition in Yemen. They added: “Child malnutrition in Yemen is a critical and serious issue. We hope that relevant authorities will adopt and support such projects to transform them into actual products that contribute to improving children’s health and raising community awareness about the importance of healthy and balanced nutrition.”
The session was attended by the Head of the Department, Dr. Doaa Mutahar, along with several faculty members.
