Master's degree in English (Translation)

The program of MA in Translation studies at University of Science and Technology (UST) is designed to equip students with the theoretical and practical skills necessary for them to become professional translators. Apart from equipping them with the knowledge and understanding of the discipline of translation, it also has a strong practical element in which students will translate texts from various fields. Through its innovative curriculum, the program prepares graduates to navigate the complexities of a multilingual and multicultural world ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the demands of the global translation industry.

The MA in Translation program at the University of Science and Technology was established in 2014 in the Department of English. It provides students who wish to undertake postgraduate studies in Translation with an opportunity to delve into the theoretical and practical depths of Translation. The program also gives such students an opportunity to acquire necessary competences and to advance their research and practical skills.

The program seeks to provide students with translation competences and research skills as well as integrate advanced translation technology through a highly-qualified teaching staff and well-equipped environment to meet the evolving needs of the translation industry and community.

The program aims at:

  1. providing students with advanced theories of translation and deep understanding of linguistic and cultural nuances.
  2. equipping students with a wide range of translation methods and strategies to enhance their adaptability in different translation contexts in response to the needs of the labor market.
  3. enabling students to utilize advanced translation technology to produce high quality translation.
  4. promoting rigorous translation research to contribute to the translation field and meet community needs.

Upon successful completion of the Master in Translation Program, the graduates will be able to:
