Sana’a – The Graphics and Multimedia Program at the Faculty of Computing, University of Science and Technology (UST), organized a scientific seminar titled “IMPACT”, exploring the influence of graphic design on individuals and its role in shaping psychological responses and decision-making processes. The event brought together a number of specialists and practitioners in the field of design and was attended by a distinguished academic and professional audience.
The seminar featured three main themes. In the first session, Mr. Zuhair Nasr discussed the psychological impact of visual elements, explaining how visual components can affect perception, emotional responses, and audience engagement. He also highlighted how designers’ visual choices can produce effects that extend beyond the aesthetic dimension of design work.
In the second session, Mr. Younis Sarhan addressed the topic of Design and Decision-Making, shedding light on the role design can play in directing audience attention and influencing choices and decisions. He emphasized that design goes beyond the visual presentation of information and can contribute significantly to shaping behavior and responses.
The third session focused on the Ethics of Influence in Design, examining the professional responsibility of designers when employing persuasive visual elements and techniques, and discussing the boundaries between legitimate influence and manipulation of audiences.
To enhance engagement, the seminar included a variety of interactive and recreational activities related to the theme of “IMPACT.” These activities provided participants with opportunities to engage practically with the seminar topics in an enjoyable and dynamic environment, combining academic value with interactive experience.
The event was attended by several faculty members and academics, along with graphic designers and family members of students enrolled in the Visual Communication Seminar course. Their participation added both academic and community dimensions to the event and enriched discussions around its themes.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the guest speakers and student organizers were honored in recognition of their contributions to the success of the event. The recognition ceremony was conducted by Dr. Jawad Al-Hammadi, Coordinator of the Graphics and Multimedia Program, and Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Wosabi, instructor of the Visual Communication Seminar course.
The organization of the “IMPACT” seminar reflects the ongoing commitment of the Graphics and Multimedia Program to implementing academic activities that enable students to move beyond the study of design principles and explore its real-world impact on individuals and society. It also aims to strengthen the connection between academic knowledge, professional practice, and the ethical responsibilities of designers.
