Sana’a – The Applied Institute of Science and Technology witnessed a distinguished scientific discussion of a graduation research project submitted by students of the first cohort of the Medical Assistant Diploma, entitled “The Risks of Using Painkillers Without a Medical Prescription Among Community Members: A Sample Study in Ma’een District, the Capital Sana’a.” This discussion was held as part of the graduation requirements for the academic year 2025–2026.

The research addressed a significant public health issue affecting a wide segment of society. The students reviewed the most commonly used types of painkillers, their mechanisms of use, and highlighted the health complications resulting from misuse—particularly when taken without medical consultation—and the consequent negative impacts on public health.
The study was based on a field sample drawn from residents of Ma’een District, which added a practical dimension to the research by reflecting the reality of medication practices within the local community and reinforcing the importance of the findings reached.
The discussion was conducted in the presence of a scientific committee comprising Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Qadeemi as research supervisor, Karwan Al-Awadhi as internal examiner, and Mohammed Al-Dubaie as external examiner. The committee enriched the research with a number of scientific observations and constructive interventions that contributed to enhancing its content and academic value.
The committee commended the efforts exerted by the female and male students, as well as the results and recommendations of the research, emphasizing its importance in raising health awareness among community members regarding the risks of random use of painkillers and the need to adhere to medical guidelines to ensure the safe use of medications.
At the conclusion of the discussion, the committee recommended expanding the study sample, benefiting from the research outputs in implementing awareness programs, and encouraging further field studies that shed light on incorrect health behaviors within the community.
The discussion was attended by the Dean of the Institute, Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Qadeemi, the Director of the Centers Administration, Mr. Jamal Zaid, a number of department and center directors at the university, as well as the parents of the graduating students.
