Sana’a – The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology (UST) held specialized workshops on Monday, 9 February 2026, to develop the mission, objectives, graduate attributes, and learning outcomes for the Bachelor’s programs in Nursing, Midwifery, and Anesthesia Technology. The workshops were attended by Prof. Munir Al‑Makhlafi, representative of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council, along with academic leaders, specialists, and representatives from the healthcare labor market.

The workshops aimed to formulate the mission, objectives, graduate specifications, and academic outcomes for the three programs in alignment with labor market needs and to support the healthcare sector with academically and professionally qualified personnel capable of delivering safe and effective health services in accordance with national and international standards.
At the opening ceremony—held under the patronage of the University President, Prof. Al‑Qasim Mohammed Abbas—the Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Abdullah Al‑Makhlafi, emphasized that organizing these workshops reflects the university’s commitment to launching academic programs that meet labor market demands through modern scientific methodologies. He noted that the college strives to prepare graduates with strong professional competence, clinical skills, ethical commitment, and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary health teams.
Dr. Al‑Makhlafi added, “Nursing, Midwifery, and Anesthesia Technology are essential fields that the healthcare sector urgently needs. Through these workshops, we aim to build robust academic programs with clear missions and precise objectives to ensure the graduation of professionals capable of serving the community and contributing to the improvement of healthcare quality in the Republic of Yemen.”
For her part, the Advisor to the University President, Dr. Huda Al‑Imad, stressed the importance of launching these programs in light of the challenges facing the healthcare sector. She noted that the university plays a national role in preparing qualified health professionals who meet the needs of both public and private healthcare institutions.
Dr. Al‑Imad also highlighted UST’s introduction of bridging programs in medical specializations, which now allow tens of thousands of diploma graduates from institutes and colleges—who previously had limited opportunities—to continue their higher education. She added, “The Bachelor’s programs in Nursing, Midwifery, and Anesthesia Technology form a fundamental pillar for the healthcare labor market. Opening these programs responds to a real and pressing need, helps address shortages in qualified health personnel, and contributes to improving services provided to society.”
Earlier, Dr. Ibrahim Al‑Sabl, Vice Dean of the College of Medicine for Health Affairs, delivered a welcoming address and outlined the tasks to be accomplished during the program‑development workshops.
The workshops reviewed and approved the mission and objectives of the educational programs, discussed and endorsed the academic plans, and defined the expected graduate attributes and learning outcomes. These encompassed the development of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional values to ensure graduates are well-prepared to enter the labor market with competence and confidence.
Participants were divided into working groups to formulate the mission, objectives, graduate characteristics, and learning outcomes of the three programs. The sessions were enriched with discussions and feedback that will significantly contribute to developing high-quality academic programs that meet the needs of the community and the labor market.
