Sana’a – On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Science and Technology (UST) in Sana’a held its Second Scientific Day on Oral and Dental Medicine. The event saw broad participation from faculty members, students, as well as experts and stakeholders in the field of oral and dental medicine.
The opening ceremony, held at the female students’ branch, featured a keynote address by the University President, Prof. Al-Qasim Mohammed Abbas. He emphasized UST’s leadership in dental education, highlighting the academic excellence of its graduates and faculty, alongside the comprehensive infrastructure supporting the faculty. Prof. Abbas asserted that no institution in Yemen rivals UST in the field of dentistry, noting the university’s pioneering role nationwide and its distinguished reputation both domestically and internationally, evidenced by its outstanding graduates.
Prof. Abbas also underscored the importance of scientific activities in fostering creativity and engagement within educational institutions, enhancing student competencies, and motivating research endeavors. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to continuously support such specialized events.
Highlighting a unique feature of UST, Prof. Abbas pointed to the exceptional academic and emotional rapport between students and faculty members, which positively influences academic achievement and performance quality.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. Khaled Al-Joufi, reviewed the faculty’s achievements over three decades since its establishment in 1994 as Yemen’s first dental school. He noted the faculty’s prestigious academic reputation, sustained by continuous curriculum updates, provision of a conducive learning environment, full golden accreditation, and the preparation of distinguished medical professionals serving local, regional, and international communities.
Prof. Al-Joufi also highlighted the faculty’s pioneering role in launching postgraduate programs in partnership with foreign universities since 2008. He announced plans to introduce three new master’s programs in oral and dental surgery, alongside bridging programs for Bachelor of Dental Assistant and Bachelor of Dental Technology degrees.
Dr. Ahlam Al-Kamel, Chair of the Scientific Committee, welcomed attendees and emphasized the significance of scientific days in enhancing student skills and improving the quality of outputs and community services. She expressed gratitude for the support from the university presidency and faculty administration for such scientific activities.
The event included a scientific awareness exhibition and several specialized lectures delivered by academics and experts in oral and dental medicine. Additionally, female students presented clinical cases, demonstrating the diagnostic and treatment processes within the faculty clinics, all within a highly interactive atmosphere.
The closing ceremony honored the lecturers, clinical case presenters, participating sponsors, and the organizing committee, which in turn recognized the Dean of the Faculty and the Chair of the Scientific Committee.
The event was attended by the Dean of the Female Students’ Branch, Dr. Suzan Al-Harwi, the Cultural Advisor to the University President, Prof. Ali Yahya Ali, several department heads, and leaders of the female students’ branch.
