Applied Linguistics Program

The Applied Linguistics program at University of Science and Technology (UST) equips students with a solid foundation in everyday English language use, enabling them to communicate effectively across a wide range of real-life situations. The program places strong emphasis on authentic conversations and essential grammatical structures that support students in their respective fields of study. It also offers extensive practice in writing and speaking skills, helping learners develop confidence and accuracy in language production. Through the updated course materials, students are introduced to the most recent uses and functions of the English language, making linguistic knowledge practical, relevant, and easily applicable to daily life.
The Applied Linguistics Program at UST was established in 2008 in response to the growing demand for specialists in language teaching and its linguistic dimensions. Since its inception, the program has sought to integrate theoretical linguistic knowledge with practical skills that qualify graduates for professional careers in education, media, and language-related institutions. Over the years, the program has made significant contributions to the local and regional labor markets by graduating qualified professionals who work as English language teachers, translators, curriculum developers, and supervisors of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) programs. The program also places strong emphasis on contemporary fields such as language teaching methodology, discourse analysis, translation studies, and language technologies, in alignment with the evolving requirements of the labor market.

The Program of Applied Linguistics is committed to provide excellent academic programs that contribute to the development of society and meet the requirements of the local, regional and international labor market through competent academic and administrative staff and a stimulating learning and research environment according to quality standards.
